The foothills of Ben Nevis will be alive next month to the sound of movie special effects - for the filming of some breathtaking sequences for the latest blockbuster Harry Potter And The Goblet Of Fire.
Much of the background shooting is already "in the can", thanks to a second unit filming of the Highland scenery, and studio wizardry at Leavsden.
But at the begining of September, Harry (Daniel Radcliffe) and his pals Hermione (Emma Watson) and Ron (Rupert Grint) will be at Steall Falls in Glen Nevis, where they will fight a computer enhanced fire-eating dragon!
During the initial backdrop camerawork the film crew set up their HQ in the remote climbing bothy at Steall.
And for three day's in September, the mountain hut will provide a safe haven for Harry and co if the weather is bad.
The bothy is owned by British Alcan, and leased to Lochaber Mountaineering Club, who are sub-letting to Warner Brothers.
After begotiating the hight sided, rocky gorge, one way of reaching the hut is by tackling a three-strand wire bridge across the River Nevis - the same route Prince Charles took when he visited Lochaber Mountain Rescue Team in the bothy in 1987.
So Harry could well be following int he carefully placed Royal footsteps.
Goblet Of Fire director, Mike Newell, is said to have been "Bowled over" by the beauty of Steall Falls and the tranquility of the remote area.
In this latest Harry Potter film, the Glenfinnan area will be prominent once again, with the Hogwarts Express steaming across Glenfinnan Viaduct on the West Highland railway line. |
As convincing as this sounds, this location for filming has not been officially confirmed.
