That occurred to me too, but in HPB it's quite clear that the only way to truly split the soul is by the ultimate act of evil: murder. So no, I don't think any of the actual "soul" itself goes into the portrait, and definitely not into the photographs.
It is a good question though. Just one of those things I love about the Potterverse.
I think if we had all the answers right up front, actually, it wouldn't be as fun or interesting. Sometimes the fun part is wondering about it and trying to figure out how these things could work.
So many possibilities !
