JK Rowling, the creator and author of the Harry Potter series of children's books, is to receive an honorary degree from Edinburgh University today.

Rowling has written a lot of her work in the Scottish capital where she lives with her husband and two children.

She also completed a teacher-training course in 1996 at Moray House in Edinburgh.

The author is to collect the degree of doctor honoris causa, which is one of the university's highest accolades.

Rowling said: "I am delighted and honoured to be receiving an honorary degree from the University of Edinburgh, my adopted home city."
JK, who lives in Edinburgh, will be presented with the degree at 3.15pm.

Update: more information from after the ceremony,

Receiving this honorary degree is a particular pleasure," said JK.

"To receive such a tribute from the city I now call home, and to be in such distinguished company, means a lot to me," she added.
Speaking straight after the ceremony, JK gave a little hint about what might happen in the last book. She was asked if Harry would graduate in Book VII . She paused before replying:
