Girl Power comes to Hogwarts in the new Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban video game.

The Electronic Arts title, for all consoles and PC, allows gamers for the first time to play Hermione and Ron as well as Harry. And Hermione is pretty handy throughout the game. Like the movie, Harry and Co. find themselves back at school for their third year with dark Dementors everywhere searching for Sirius Black after his breakout from the wizard prison Azkaban.

Some scenes draw straight from the movie, but the majority of the game has Harry, Hermione and Ron in search of spells needed along the way. And that involves a lot of puzzle-solving through the bowels of Hogwarts.

As the game progresses, each of the characters learns new spells and the gamer has to choose between them at stops. Other times the game forces you to go with one character rather than the others - Hermione, for example, can slip into small spaces.

Switching between characters is done by pressing a button.

Potter fans will also enjoy flying Buckbeak the Hippogriff, which allows you to explore the school grounds from the air.

The game is simple to play and looks good, although the load time on the PlayStation version is frustrating. It is a single-player challenge, although there are two- and four-player mini-games, some of which need the EyeToy camera accessory in the PlayStation version.

Prisoner of Azkaban, EA's fourth Potter title, is rated E for Everyone and game designers have done a good job offering hints on getting past obstacles. Still, younger gamers may need some help at a few stages while the older player may find the game lacks challenge.
