Neville had spent his last year at Hogwarts studying, like his classmates for his exams. He actually managed a few OWLs a few years earlier and had an opportunity to take a NEWT in Herbology his favorite subject.

He managed to do so well on it that Madam Sprout offered him the chance of a lifetime, to spend his first year out of school as her apprentice. He would stay on the grounds near the greenhouses in some quarters that were erected for him but the Headmaster. His duties also included assisting Hagrid with the Grounds keeping since his Professorial tasks had increased as of late.

This arrangement couldn’t have been better for Neville due to the fact of his Grandmum’s recent passing. Although he was never entirely fond of her, she did care for him lovingly, if not sternly. Neville’s parents had remained at St. Mungos in London where he tried to visit as often as he could but his new responsibilities made that difficult. He was never quite sure if his mother even realized that her sister no longer came to visit when Neville did.

After his year as the apprentice, Professor Sprout said he was qualified to apply for positions at some of the area nurseries or even the Garden shop at Diagon Alley. It was this last position that appealed to him the most, he could work with something he really enjoyed and be near his wizard friends. All he needed now was a place to stay......
