Intro:

7th year, Dumbledore isn’t dead. Horcruxes still need to be found but since Dumbledore is still alive, he told Harry, Ron and Hermione to finish school and then search. Ginny and Harry didn’t EVER get together. Voldemort is not a huge giant threat right now, but he is gaining power; romance.

Ships: Harry/Ginny, Ron/Hermione +

“Happy birthday Harry!” Hermione screamed in the bright morning sun on July 31st.

“Yeah, mate, it’s about time you become an adult like the rest of us,” Ron yawned from his bed across the room. They were at the Burrow, home sweet home. Harry had just arrived the night before, escorted by Dumbledore himself. Though Voldemort was not at full power, though the ministry had not yet fallen, though life was still sane at the time, Harry was still under the highest protection Dumbledore could get him.

“Wow, I feel so grown up now,” Harry said sarcastically. He didn’t feel all that different. After all, it seemed as though Harry had been grown up for years. He had no parents, though he felt as if he were truly a Weasley. He had fought off Voldemort countless amounts of times…yeah; he was done being a kid a long time ago.

The bedroom door opened and in a flash, a girl with long red hair was hugging Harry and wishing him a happy birthday. Very secretly, Harry enjoyed smelling the honey scent of her hair, the way her skin was so soft against his.

“Thanks, Ginny,” he told her as she nodded, blushing from her overexcitement. It was all so foolish. Everyone knew the pair fancied each other but neither would admit it. The only person who was oblivious to the fact, or at least pretended to be, was Ron. He remained as protective and guarded over Ginny as he had when he first found out that she was dating Michael Corner; to be truthful, he had never looked at Neville the same since the Yule Ball.

Hermione plumped down next to Ron on his bed and began stroking his flaming hair affectionately. He took her hand in his and rubbed his thumb on the inside of her palm. Her smile was instantaneous; Harry couldn’t help but wonder….

If Ron can be happy with Hermione, why can’t I be happy with Ginny? If no one bans him from the one he wants to be with, why does he have the right to ban me from the one that I want? I understand…sister, protective, whatever…but I know that he knows that I would be right to her…he knows I would take care of her and always be the best I could be for her…I don’t understand. I really just don’t understand....

“Harry, are you alright?” Ginny was asking in what seemed to be a distant voice. Harry suddenly snapped back to the earth, away from his thoughts.

“Huh? Oh yeah, I’m fine…I was just thinking that’s all,” he pretty much stuttered.

“Thinking about what, mate?” Ron asked inquiringly.

You know about what,” Harry thought in his head.

“Nothing, really,” Harry said aloud.

“Well,” Hermione began, “I think we ought to go down for breakfast. Molly will want to wish you a happy birthday and feed you up.” Ron smiled at his girlfriend’s remark even though it wasn’t anything remotely special.

So, the foursome ventured down the stairs into the crowded kitchen of the Burrow to find it empty. Puzzled, they looked around, and Ron and Hermione led the way out to the garden and the backyard. As Harry followed, he felt something odd coming on and knew what hit him just before it arrived.

"SURPRISE!” came the shouts from the garden. They were clever, planning a party for the morning instead of the evening, which Harry would have expected ten times more than this.

As Harry looked around he saw Lupin and Tonks holding hands, Mad Eye Moody and his strange whizzing eye, Fred and George in aquamarine robes, Charlie and Bill Weasley, accompanied by Fleur, Hagrid and none other than Albus Dumbledore himself. Harry smiled and was happy that he had thought to dress before he came downstairs. He made his way over to the crowd and greeted everyone, accepting their congratulations….
