8/10

Well, having booked my tickets about 2 weeks in advance and managing to get a backrow seat even though there wer 5 screens showing PoA that nyt and there was a que ryt round the cinema i settled back to watch the film i'd been waiting to see for so long!!! I even took my book wit me (yes my friends did try to disown me).

The opening scenes wer amazing, pretty faithfull to the book and got loads of laughs from the crowd. The shot where u see Aunt Marge jst floating off in the background is a good touch! I wasn't sure about The Knight Bus from the trailer clips I'd seen, but i thort it workd pretty well, although my friend commented to me that she thort that the bus was being portrayed as being quite scary and she hadnt expected this (note: i didnt think the Knight Bus was scary!). I did think Harry crashing into the window twice was perhaps a little excessive?!

I think that the first half hour/hour of the film was really good, although i could comment on loadsa things that are different, but then u cant expect films to be exactly the same as the book! (However.........Dementors don't fly! They glide!)
The special effects were definately up to scratch, and i think the dementors did work really well (apart from wen they flew) as it's obviously really difficult to cum up with a way of portraying them as we only really know how they feel, not wat it looks like wen they'r around u bcos all we get is Harry's perspective in the book! So it was clever that everything froze, but im not sure if the book reads like that? I sort of imagined it more as jst having a feeling of bein chilled to ur bone, not actually being physically cold? But then that wud be really difficult to portray!

I thort that Buckbeack was really realistic and he was how i imagined him to be! The scene where Harry is on Buckbeak and flies over the lake is amazing! Also i thought that the way Harry got picked to ride on Buckbeack was really good- it was funny how everyone stepped back to make it look like he'd volunteered!

One criticism i have is that you don't see nearly enought of people like Prof. McGonagall, Snape, Hagrid etc...its really focused around Harry, Ron and Hermione.....u barely see Neville at all, and that's bad!! There was no madam Hooch at all, which brings me on to the next thing! Quidditch!!! The one scene of Quidditch was pretty cool but i deffo think there cudve bin more, especially bcos Gryffindor win! And there's a whole chapter (although short) in the book dedicated to the Quidditch final!! I think that although there are time constraints on filmmakers, it would've bin nice to see a bit more of day to day life at Hogwarts- there definately wasn't enought castle scenes and we don't get to see all the quirks of Hogwarts! The film basically misses out the whole of the easter term!

The scenes with Lupin were done well- the bit where Harry and Lupin are on the bridge tunnel thingy is sweet, u see Lupin as another one of Harry's adopted parents. The scene where Lupin leaves is also really nicely done- it captures the feeling that everyone seems to leave Harry- a theme in the books which is constantly repeated! But its good where Lupin says hes sure he will see Harry again!! (OotP!!)

The shrieking shack was interesting- the fact the shack itself was physically moving around all the time i found slightly annoying, but i think the scene pretty much captured evryfin written in the book, but like the rest of the film it was a bit fast- it swept over it too quickly. Peter Pettigrew was satisfyingly replusive! And they got the line in about Hermione being a sweet, clever girl which is direct quote from the text! The sceneb4 where the willow attacks Harry and Hermione is good- it has comedy value, but of course that doesnt happen in the book and with that time they could've added summit that was in the book!! But it works pretty well!

The ending of the film is good, i liked the shot of Harry and Sirius lying on the floor together after the dementors have gone, and all the bits with Sirius are really good! But we cd've had a bit more of him!!! The ending of the film is also basically faithfull to the book. with a few added bits so its good that they get the really important moments right. However, wud've bin nice to see Harry get the note from Sirius saying he's allowed into Hogsmeade, and when Ron gets Pig!( cant wait to see how cute he'l be!!!).

So overall, i think the film was really good although it has its faults! It's still a children's film though, whereas the book has progressed mch more! But i mean they can't really go that wrong! 2 hrs of Dan has to be good, and their acting seems to be up to scratch- definately improving! Trelawny was very funny, i think Emma Thompson did a good job! And the new Dumbledore is jst as good (his beard cd be a bit whiter tho!).

b4 i 4get........ the scene in Hogsmeade was odd tho, wat was the point in taking it upstairs? Why didnt Harry jst find out from under the table like he does in the book, and as if Prof.McGonagall wouldn't notice a door opeing by itself wen harry enters and leaves! WEIRD!

Neway....even tho iv sed loadsa criticisms it was still amazing! Visually i think it was mch more impressive (and im not jst talking about Harry and Draco!) I'm deffo gona go see it agen as an after exam treat! Just bcos its not the same as the book doesnt mean its rubbish (for example- think of hw mch was cut from LOTR!)

Well done to evry1 who was involved!!! Can't wait to see the 4th one!!
