Shipper Queen Hippie Quad Chapter 37 The night before…
Harry made sure Ron was asleep and Hermione was in her room, before he began packing. The party had calmed down and people had returned to the warmness of the house or have said their goodbyes. The house was going into a deep slumber as the seventeen year old stirred.
As quiet as a mouse, Harry slipped out of his bed and bent over his trunk. After he made sure everything he absolutely needed was inside, he whispered a charm to make it shrink. It grew to the size of a model car and he put it into his pocket. He then put on his shoes, a warm jacket and grabbed his wand. Looking one last time at Ron’s lifeless body, he began toward the door, his Firebolt in his left hand.
The house was dark and peaceful as he climbed down the stairs. His heartbeat was starting to beat faster with every step. He crept through the silent house, trying not to run into anything, when somebody ran into him.
“Oomph!”
Hmmmf!”
”Who is that?”
”Charlie?”
”Harry?”
Harry, tired of this little game, lifted his wand and muttered, “Lumos.”
The soft glow from Harry’s wand illuminated Charlie’s youthful complexion. He looked at Harry suspiciously, seeing him fully dressed and his wand at the ready. He motioned for Harry to follow him and walked into the kitchen. As Harry entered the kitchen, Charlie turned on the lights, leaving him momentarily blind. After his eyes adjusted to the light, he saw Charlie was sitting at the table.
“So, what’s going on?” Charlie asked casually.
“Nothing.” Harry lied.
Charlie raised an eyebrow at him. “You’re fully dressed, have your broomstick in one hand and have your wand in the other. But nothing is going on?”
Harry took a deep breath and slowly sank into a chair next to him.
“Are Ron and Hermione going with you?” Charlie asked. Harry didn’t answer but looked at his hands.
“Is that a yes?” Charlie inquired.
“No. They don’t even know I’m leaving.” Without realizing it, he admitted to him he was leaving.
“Really? They are usually with you at all times.”
”I don’t want them to get hurt…again.”
”Again?”
”Yes, again.”
Charlie looked at him curiously, but didn’t pressure him to go on.
“Its my fault Ron got hurt tonight!” Harry said, letting his guilt take over.
“What do you mean tonight? You guys left under mum’s nose?” Charlie asked.
“Yeah.”
“I’m impressed.” Charlie smiled at him. A small smiled escaped Harry’s lips before he thought about what happened tonight, where it then turned back to a grim expression.
“Where did you lot go?”
”I can’t say.” Harry said quietly. He hoped Charlie didn’t start waking people up and telling them he was leaving. He had wanted to make his leave quick, because it wasn’t going to be easy for any of them. He wanted to do this without anybody noticing.
“Is Ron ok? Should we be worried?” Charlie asked. His relaxing nature calmed Harry down a lot.
“Hermione said he would be ok. But this is why I have to leave. I don’t want this to happen again.”
“Why did you leave tonight in the first place?” Harry looked over at Charlie. He wasn’t asking these questions to be nosy and he wasn’t forcing him to answer them. He was just talking to him. Harry was grateful for this. He soon felt himself growing more and more at peace. He still regretted his decision for leaving them all, but he wasn’t as scared anymore.
“Before Dumbledore died, he left something for me to do. I need to do this and I don’t want to be responsible if something happened to Ron or Hermione. I wont let anything happen to them.” Harry said.
“So you were just going to leave without saying good bye?”
”If I stayed to say good bye they would’ve made me stay or tried to come with me.”
“Good point. Well at least write them a letter. I know they would appreciate that better than you just straight up leaving.” Charlie said, walking over to the counter. He took a piece of parchment and quill from a drawer and set it in front of Harry.
“Here. Write them. I’ll make sure nobody wakes up before you have the chance to leave.” He said. He walked back toward the counter and poured himself a cup of coffee. He then walked out the kitchen.
“Charlie!” Harry called. Charlie peaked his head round the corned, so Harry could only see his head and upper body.
“Thanks. And can you tell Mrs. Weasley thank you also, for everything. And please tell her not to worry about me.” Harry said.
“I will.” Charlie promised.
