What I Wish from Girls
Daniel Radcliffe has grown up: three months ago he celebrated his 18th birthday. And in his latest movie December Boys you can see, that little "Harry Potter" has turned into a serious actor. BRAVO met Daniel for an exclusive interview in London…
Bravo: You turned 18 in July. May I still call you Daniel?
Daniel: (laughs) Of course! Please don’t call me "Mr Radcliffe," this would be completely weird! Just call me Dan!
Bravo: What did you do first, when you became an adult?
Daniel: In England pubs are not allowed to serve alcohol to youngsters. Now I can go into a pub and order a beer totally legal. This was what I did. But the beer was not for me but for my friend. When I gave him the glass I felt quite grown up …
Bravo: You are allowed to drive a car. Have you already got your driving licence?
Daniel: No, unfortunately not. There is hardly any teenager in the world who is less motivated than me. Somehow I just don’t feel like it. I know that it is important to have a driving licence, and I take driving lessons. But I really have to force myself to do it. I am asleep at the switch and maybe I drive a bit too cautiously and hesitantly.
Bravo: Did you already buy a car?
Daniel: No. I couldn’t make up my mind yet. Although English newspapers reported, that I had bought a Fiat Punto. But the entire story was completely made up!
Bravo: You are still single. Which girls would appeal to you?
Daniel: I would like a girl that is reasonable and not completely cracked. It’s important for me that she has got a sense of humour and makes me laugh. And of course she should be intelligent. These are the things I really pay attention to, when I meet a girl.
Bravo: Do you prefer a certain hair colour on girls?
Daniel: I don’t look at the hair colour first of all. But I must confess that I’ve got a soft spot for redheads. Recently I met a redheaded girl, which is more beautiful than any other girl I met in my life. She is really extraordinary. Redheads are absolutely great!
Bravo: Do you believe in love at first sight?
Daniel: No, not really!
Bravo: Why not?
Daniel: I am really happy when I meet a beautiful girl and be able to chat with her well. And when I have talked to her a bit longer, I might feel attracted to her. But this is still not real love! Such an intense emotion needs quite some time to develop. I think it means a lot of work. when you establish a relationship with someone. Love is a gift that you really have to nourish and take care for!
Bravo: Are you sometimes afraid, that a girl could just chase after your fame and money?
Daniel: This is something I really don’t care. And I detect the ones that are only after my money immediately. I realize very quickly who is honest with me and who is not!
Bravo: How can you do that?
Daniel: I’ve got very good instincts concerning people. It’s easy for me to find out who is fooling me and who is not.
Bravo: No matter what you do or where you are: You are always in the limelight. Do you think that you will be able to have a normal relationship?
Daniel: I hope so! Many people think that actors lead a glamorous life all day long. And still celebrities fight as often as normal couples do.
Bravo: Is there any actress you have a crush on?
Daniel: It’s difficult to enumerate them all, because there are many actresses, whom I really admire. Scarlett Johansson for instance, she is beautiful. And the Australian newcomer Emily Barclay is very sexy, too.
Bravo: Which love song do you like most?
Daniel: I think the most beautiful love song of all times is "Into My Arms" by Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds. This is a fantastic song – I think there is no better!
Bravo: You are still living with your parents. Isn’t this sometimes a pain in the neck?
Daniel: No, not at all. I’ve got a very good rapport with my parents. Our relationship is really close and we get along with each other very well!
Bravo: Presumably not many young people talk like this about their parents. So you are really good friends?
Daniel: Definitely! My parents and me, we are best friends!
Bravo: If a good fairy would grant you a wish – what would you ask her for?
Daniel: I would ask the fairy to turn me into the best cricket player in the world. That would be fantastic! I could take part in the World Cup – this would be my biggest dream! One day my wish will come true and then the coach of the British cricket team will call me (laughs)!
Bravo: You seem to be a real cricket fan!
Daniel: I am obsessed with that game. This lasts already for about one and a half years. At that time I accidentally watched a cricket game and since then this sport doesn’t let me go anymore. This might sound a bit strange, but I can’t do anything against it.
Bravo: Which team do you cross your fingers for?
Daniel: Actually I am more interested in several players than a certain team. But when it depends, I cross my fingers for Essex of course. My mother has grown up in this area – and my grandmother still lives there.
