You have to factor in that many of these figures were created before our time, so really, so unless you're really literary, you probably haven't read all those books. Beyond that, you'll always be a little more afraid of villains in your childhood novels. So it stands to reason that older generations are more afraid of Big Brother, Pennywise, and Bill Sykes than they are of Voldemort, and we're more afraid of Voldemort than we are of the other villains. If they asked what the most terrifying villain of our generation was, then I'd be confident that Voldemort would top the list, but this is a poll of all time.
