Chapter 32

“Now what?” Ron asked.

Before Harry did anything, he wanted to visit his mother and father’s graves. Across the street from the ruined house was a secluded cemetery. Harry walked toward it. Without saying anything to Ron or Hermione, the three silently began looking for James and Lily Potter’s grave.

After a few minutes of looking at deceased names, he heard Hermione’s voice, “Here.”

Harry walked over to where she stood and looked down at two rectangle white marble gravesites. The one on the left was his mother’s.

Lily Potter
30 January 1960-31 October 1981
A beloved wife, friend, and mother.
And a beautiful flower who fought until the end.
Rest in Peace.

The one on the right, next to Lily’s was his father’s.

James Potter
27 March 1960-31 October 1981
A beloved husband, friend and father.
And the guardian of Gordic’s Hollow.
Rest in Peace.

Deep emotions exploded through Harry as he looked down upon his mother and father. They shouldn’t have their names on stones yet. They were only twenty-one when it happened. They were so young. They left the world so suddenly and all because of him. They would still be alive if they hadn’t been trying to protect him.

Next to him, Hermione had silent tears rolling down her face and Ron had a grim look on his face. The thing that surprised Harry the most was the bouquet of flowers around the gravesite. Letters and cards were all attached to the flowers. Most had “Thank you” or “Miss you” on the front of the envelopes.

As Harry looked down at the people who appreciated his mother and father, Hermione pulled out her wand. She flicked it and three single white roses appeared in her hand. She handed one to Ron, then to Harry. They stood quietly next to each other, as snow fell down onto them, in silent thought. Slowly, Ron and Hermione placed their roses in between the two white marbles stones. Harry placed his rose last, on top of Ron and Hermione’s.

After another few minutes of silent thought, Harry looked up. “Ok. Lets go.” He was ready to visit Gordic’s Hollow.

He turned out of the graveyard and walked across the road toward the remains of the old house. What use to be a two-story house, was now almost a one story. The roof of the house was gone and parts of the walls were missing, so the second floor rooms were somewhat visible. Whatever had happened, it was big that had hit the brick house. In the distance, Harry could see the remains of a chimney. Glass and bricks littered all around the big yard.

As they walked to the front door, Harry was glad nobody had come to clean it up, or restore the house. He wanted to see what was left of is first home. It was devastating to see, but it brought Harry a sense of tranquility.

The front door hung on precariously onto the hinges, leaving the entrance slightly blocked. The three climbed over the white wood door and gazed upon the inside. A bookshelf lay on its side and books were lying across the crimson carpet. Some books were torn, so pages also conquered the ground. A small burgundy love seat laid on its back in the living room. An old jade green armchair was the only upright furniture in the house. Bricks, from what use to be the fireplace, were scattered around the overturned coach.

“This is awful.” Hermione whispered. They were pretty sure they were the only three there, but the house came off as a place where you needed to whisper; like a library or a hospital.

Before they turned to go to the upper floor, a picture frame underneath the wreckage caught Harry’s eye. He walked back and moved some bricks and dust off it. He then looked at it with eagerness in his green eyes.

It was a picture of his mother and father. James Potter was holding a baby boy in his arms with jet-black hair that matched his own. He was bouncing the baby in his arms laughing with the giggling baby. Lily was standing next to them; the biggest and warmest smile on her radiant face. They were outside what Harry recognized as the house he was standing in now. It broke Harry’s heart that the house no longer looked like the one in the picture. Or the smiles on the three people in the pictures would never be the same.

Slipping the picture out of the broken glass, he put into his pocket. They then went up the stairs. It was colder up there on account of the missing roof. Walking down the hall Harry felt magic before he could see it. Somebody had defiantly been here already.

The magic vibes were coming from one of the rooms. He walked toward the room and placed his hand on the knob.

“Wait.” Hermione said, stopping his hand with her own. Harry took a deep breath and opened the door.

This had to be his old room. In the far corner a maple crib stood in the corner. Harry walked over to it, intrigued. Inside was a small baby blue blanket. He lifted it out and put his face in it. The soft material slid over his face smoothly. When Harry had lifted the blanket out, something had dropped. He looked around now and saw a baby blue pacifier.

Ron walked forward and picked it up from the floor. Harry suddenly got the chills as Ron brought the pacifier to eye level.

A bug smile erupted onto Ron’s face. “Look I’m a baby!” he chuckled and brought the pacifier to his lips.

“Ron wait!” Harry said stepping forward quickly. But he was to late; the pacifier was already in his mouth.
