25. Sorting Hat

Blinky, perhaps the oldest house elf working at Hogwarts, was busy cleaning Dumbledore’s office. Blinky prided himself over the job, as being the house elf to clean the headmaster’s office was most prestigious. As usual, he first dusted over the knick knacks and instruments. Next he polished the wooden desk. Before he finished, Blinky heard an odd noise coming from one of the highest shelves.

As he listened closer, he began to hear words. “Ravenclaw… what rhymes with claw?” By standing on his tiptoes, he understood. The tattered sorting hat was muttering to itself, making up next year’s sorting song.
