Jacques snapped out of it and managed to close his gaping mouth as Nik clapped a hand on his shoulder. Wrenching his eyes away from the everradiant Astoria, he turned to Nik.

"Thank you for inviting me" he said, doubting that he could get comfortable here. "Julia should be here soon too" he added quickly, saying it a little louder so the whole room could hear. He stopped short of calling her his fiance, but he wished she was here to protect him from Astoria. He was a grown man, but his heart had always reigned when it came to girls. Particularly girls he had been involved with.

He looked around the room to see Fran, Bucky and two other men. These two strangers Jacques moved towards, secretly hoping that one of them wasn't Astoria's boyfriend. "Nice to meet you, I am Jacques Beaumont" he said, extending his hand.
