Summer at Vannacutt Manor

Four matched Eagle Owls left Vannacutt Manor during the first week of summer. Each had a beautifully embossed invitation card tied to its feet. An invitation was sent to Francesca Clairmonte, Lua Stone, Jacques Beaumont and Celestina Warbuck.

The invitations were for a week long house party at Vannacutt Manor, and the guests were expected to arrive in two weeks. Each person was allowed to bring 2 guests with them (to liven things up). The only rule that Nik had included at the bottom of the cards in his untidy scrawl was “Don’t forget to bring your party moods!”

Included in the envelopes of the invitations were 3 intricately carved golden keys. They were tied together with a scarlet ribbon and had a little note attacted, “Portkeys.”

(Two Weeks Later)

Nikolai Vannacutt tried to play it cool, but he was nervous and extremely excited at the prospect of having all his old friends at his house for a week. His stepmother, Andi Mao MacDougall-Vannacutt saw right through him and though she was complaining about the fact that their house was going to be overrun by teenagers for a week, she was secretly pleased that Nik would finally have friends over.

He kept looking for excuses to pass by the great oak front doors, hoping that somebody would knock already. Even though he knew perfectly well that the Portkeys would only be activated in 15 minutes, he couldn’t help but be impatient.
