Ravenclaw Chapter 17

Hermione awoke one warm morning to a beautiful blonde head.

"Eek! Draco, what-"

"Shh! Don't talk, just get dressed and follow me." Draco refused to say anymore and left the room. Hermione rolled over and closed her eyes.

"No sleeping!" Draco's voice called from beyond the door. Hermione groaned and rolled out of bed. She tossed on a faded pink t-shirt and some jeans, ran a comb through her hair, and left the room.

Outside, Draco took her hand. "Draco, what's going on?"

"Hush...you need to see this." Draco led the way up and out of the ground, and into the dark night sky.

"Draco...there's nothing out here." Hermione was getting grumpy.

"Look up." Draco said. Hermione did.

There must have been 10 billion stars above a clear blue sky. Tree branches scattered on the edge, creating a sort of border. Hermione could hear the lapping of a distant lake, and an owl hooted. A nightingale broke the silence with it's mournful call.

"Oh Draco...it's beautiful!" Hermione whispered. Draco took her hand.

"Yea...it's even better than at Hogwarts."

"You've seen this at Hogwarts?" Hermione looked at him in disbelief.

"Well sure. Sometimes, a guy can't sleep, so they look out their window. But...this beats anything I've ever seen before."

Draco found a boulder a little aways, and Hermione sat down next to him. Draco put his arm around her, and they watched the sun rise. First, it turned a pinkish color at the horizon. Then, slowly, orange and yellow creeped in, creating a clash of colors that was beautiful and bold. Clouds sailed in slowly, scattering the effect, and yet making it more gorgeous. Finally, the sun itself, huge and unrelenting, slowly made it's way into the sky. Hermione sighed.

"Well worth getting up for honey. How long have you been doing this?"

"Oh, about 4 days. I just couldn't sleep, then after that...well, who needs sleep when you have this and a pretty girl next to you?"

Hermione giggled.

"Well, in comparison, the sky looks awfully dull, don't you think?" Hermione squeezed his hand.

"Draco...I'm so happy. I'm so glad I found you."

"And I you Hermione. Now, I have something serious to discuss with you." Draco said. Hermione sat up straighter. "As you know, my estate is pretty large."

"Yes...your house, you mean?"

"I mean the house, the stables, the acres of land...it's alot for one person."

"Of course." Hermione said. What was he playing at?

"I should have a maid and a butler to help my new house-elf." Draco thought aloud. Hermione nodded in agreement. "But what about me?"

"What about you?"

"Who's going to help me?"

"Help you do what?" Now Hermione was more confused than ever.

"Oh, you know....bills, honeymooning, raising the children...who's going to help me with that?"

"Your wife!" Hermione said, exasperated now. "Draco, what are you playing at?"

Draco slid off the rock and kneeled in front of Hermione. He scribbled something in the dirt below her. She leaned over while Draco dug in his pocket.

Hermione Granger, will you marry me?

Hermione gasped. Draco now held out a black velvet box. With trembling hands, Hermione took it and slowly opened it. On the white satin cushion lay a sparkling blue diamond ring.

"Draco...wherever did you buy this?" Hermione finally managed to choke out.

"A man has his ways...how about it Hermione? Will you marry me?"

"Yes, please!" Draco placed the engagement ring on Hermione's ring finger, then kissed it. He got back up on the rock and sat next to his fiancee, watching the rest of the sunrise in togetherness.
