Ravenclaw Chapter 9

Another day, another load of homework. Hermione and Draco worked at opposite ends of the table in their Common Room in silence. Crookshanks was sitting in Hermione's lap, purring. Draco kept shooting the animal dark looks of mistrust, and Hermione didn't blame him. The clock struck six, and Hermione jumped. Crookshanks leaped out of her lap, hissing.

"Sorry Crookshanks. I guess I'm a little tired." Her stomach growled. "And hungry."

"How much homework do you have left?" Draco asked.

"Alot." Hermione said, ruffling through her papers. I've still got Transfiguration, Ancient Runes, and Astronomy-"

"Don't you have to do that at night?" Draco asked.

"Not this assignment. This I just have to write an essay why Mars and Venus keep in alignment in October. As if anyone cares!" Hermione slammed her books down, making Draco jump. "I can't concentrate!"

"I'm going to get you some dinner. You keep working. Or," Draco added, a gleam in his eye, "If you'd rather...you can have dinner with me."

"How? We're in different Houses." Hermione grumbled.

"I'll bring up dinner. Just you and me. What do you say?" He was almost pleading. Hermione gave in.

"Oh fine. If it'll make you feel better-"

"Great! Relax!" Draco said quickly, and slammed the door as he left. Hermione sighed. Crookshanks twitched his tail, and meowed.

"Me too." Hermione said, and put her books away, awaiting dinner.

Draco was practically skipping down to the kitchens. He sneaked in through the painting of the bowl of fruit and was bowled over by five house-elves.

"Hello Mr. Draco sir," one tiny one piped up. "What can we be gettings you?"

"Something special Zippy," Draco said. "Hot date tonight."

"Yes sirs!" Zippy squeaked, and zoomed off, with five house-elves. The next thing Draco knew, he had a ham, some chicken, some salad, and some garlic bread. Also, a cake, and several pieces of pie.

"Thanks Zippy!" Draco said, obviously pleased. Zippy beamed.

"Anything for Mr. Draco sir! Come again!"

Draco tottered up the stairs and down hallways until he came to his own Common Room. He opened the door and layed the whole thing on the table. Hermione was no where to be found. He called out, worried.

"Hermione?"

"Coming Draco!" Hermione appeared at the top of the stairs. Draco was struck by how pretty she was. Her hair was not bushy, but tame. She was wearing a teal, low-cut shirt with clear sequins. Her jeans fit to every curve, and she was wearing plain white shoes. She was a knock-out.

"Wow..." Draco managed. Hermione looked at him suspiciously.

"What?"

"It's just...you look wonderful." Draco took her hand and kissed it. She blushed.

"C'mon Draco...I wear this all the time."

"Not true. And when did your hair get all shiny like that?" Draco led her to the table.

"It was always like this. You just haven't-oh Draco! It looks wonderful!" Draco grinned, pleased that she was pleased with the spread.

As they ate, Draco and Hermione caught up with everything that had happened since their break-up. As they sat, chatted, and ate, they remembered why they fell in love....and why they broke up. Draco was full of shame. How could he have let this beautiful, kind, and and passionate girl get away from him?

As Hermione made conversation with Draco, she thought of Harry less and less. It was as if she had rediscovered love. Her love. Her old love. Draco was kind, caring, strong, handsome, and witty. She laughed at his jokes and comments on some of the new professors, and she wondered, how could she have dumped this wonderful man?

After dinner, Draco led Hermione away from the table. He flicked his wand, and the table vanished, along with the silverware. It left a large empty space. He waved his wand again, and sweet music poured into the room. Draco offered his hand to Hermione.

"Honor me with one dance, Hermione?"

"With pleasure, Draco." Hermione accepted, and they danced their old song.

No more talk of darkness,
Forget these wide-eyed fears
I'm here, nothing can harm you
my words will warm and calm you
Let me be your freedom,
let daylight dry your tears.
I'm here with you, beside you,
to guard you and to guide you...

Say you love me every waking moment,
turn my head with talk of summertime...
Say you need me with you now and always...
Promise me that all you say is true
that's all I ask of you

Let me be your shelter
let me be your light
You're safe, No one will find you
your fears are far behind you...

All I want is freedom,
a world with no more night
and you, always beside me, to hold me and to hide me...

Then say you'll share with me
one love, one lifetime
let me lead you from your solitude
Say you need me with you here, beside you...
anywhere you go, let me go too
Christine, that's all I ask of you...

Say you'll share with me one love, one lifetime...
say the word and I will follow you...
Share each day with me,
each night, each morning...

As the song ended, Hermione and Draco looked into each others eyes, and were overcome with love for each other. Hermione spoke first.

"Say you love me..."

"You know I do..." Draco responded.

"Love me, that's all I ask of you..." They finished the song in unison, and kissed.
