The Voice

After a full day of walking Luna was on the outskirts of muggle London, not exactly sure where she was. She couldn’t think that last night she was asleep in her dormitory at Hogwarts. She had to survive another 6 weeks over the summer holidays until the next school year and she wasn’t quite sure if she would be able to go back as a poor homeless person.

She held back tears. No matter what she would not cry, no matter how hard it got she would not let herself cry. If she cried she would have been defeated by her father, and she couldn’t live with that.

It was getting close to midnight and she was physically and mentally tired, she hadn’t quite thought about where she would sleep. Bob would have taken her in if she was anywhere near Farnworth but that was on the other side of the country and with no more money for a trip back to Farnworth she was stranded in London.

Luna approached a corner shop with a group of teenage boys wearing hoodies and baseball caps. She wanted to cross over to the other side of the street but they were too close now and she didn’t want to arouse their attention. If she hurried past they would leave her alone.

“Hey Babe!” one of them shouted as Luna walked past them.
“Nice outfit geek!” another shouted. Luna kept on walking but glanced down at her dirty robes, they were bad by wizarding standards but to a crowd of teenage boys who by the large amount of smashed glass around them were drunk, she was a freak.

Luna continued to walk away from the lads but they followed her. She was scared; dreading what a group of drunk teenage boys could do to her she clutched her wand in her pocket. If she was being attacked that classed as an emergency didn’t it?

Luna started to run and the boys chased after her. She turned down a side street away from the main road where more muggles would see her.
She stopped running and turned around to face the teenagers.
They stopped running and walked over to her, all of them laughing and grinning. They had caught her; no way could this little girl beat all of them.

As the boys came closer they started leering at her and shouting “Hey cutie!” and words to that effect. Luna pulled out her wand from her pocket; the boys couldn’t see it in the dark as she raised it above her head.

”Petrificus totalus!” she shouted pointing her wand at the nearest teenager to her.
The rest of the boys stopped in their tracks and looked at their friend who had collapsed on the floor.
”What did you do to him?” one shouted as they approached her.

Luna felt a small smile flash across her face.
Curse another.
Said a voice in her brain.
She tried to shake it off as the boys approached but she couldn’t stop herself. “Petrificus totalus!” she shouted again and watched as another boy collapse paralysed on the floor.
Come on! You know you want to! Kill one! Teach them a lesson!
Luna shook her head and ran off away from the boys who were left swearing and wondering what had happened.

Luna ran around the corner stood there in the alley wondering what the voice in her head was and why it had been urging her to keep going, to curse another, to kill them. She was still pondering what she had been doing when she saw an owl swoop down to her, the reality of what she had done sunk in.

As the owl dropped off a letter she quickly opened it.

Luna immediately looked up at the black and miserable sky, if she ran now would she be able to escape? She doubted it. The ministry could find her anywhere. She was suddenly plagued by a new worry, if they could find her then what if they sent her back to her father.

Just then she saw something large swooping down from the sky. It was large enough to be a person on a broomstick as it neared Luna turned away from it. She started to run away from the approaching shape, she couldn’t face the ministry.

There was a sudden POP in front of her that made her jump. A man dressed in long flowing midnight blue robes placed his hand on her shoulder. He was a tall and well built man with a short cut black hairstyle. She looked behind her. The flying thing was a bird when she looked closer. She turned back to the man.

“Luna Moore?” he enquired in a gruff, brisk tone. Luna felt there was no nonsense with this man. As he placed his wand back in his pocket she heard the voice again.
Now is your chance. He is unarmed, one spell.
Luna nodded to the man, trying to ignore the voice.
“Yeah.” she said, her voice was shaky. What would they do to her? She had attacked muggles.

The man rolled his eyes, “Tch, you should know better kiddo.” He said his voice slightly warmer as he spoke.
Luna began to plead. “But they were attacking me! I didn’t do anything!”
He shook his head. “Save it for the ministry.” He said, firmly grasping her arm.
She was about to pull away but she suddenly felt the sensation of being squeezed through a long tube. She felt pressure all around her as she was sucked through the tube. She lurched forwards and fell forwards into a locked office.
