Okay... no readers yet but here's the next chapter. Rushing Concrete
Luna lay crumpled on the garden path. She lay still and motionless, from the height of the window Liraes Moore presumed that the lump of robes on the floor that had been her daughter was dead but to be sure he had to check. He ran down the stairs and into the hallway. He opened the front door and pulled his wand out of his back pocket, if the fall didn’t kill his daughter. He would.
He ran around to the side of the house where he expected Luna to be sprawled over the floor dead like he had seen from her bedroom window but there was nothing there.
No lifeless body, no pile of robes, nothing. He looked around the messy garden. It was a huge garden for a house of only 3 bedrooms and the whole garden may have just been an African jungle. Liraes himself never did any gardening, the only time the grass was mowed, the hedges trimmed and the planters weeded was during the summer when Luna was at home and forced to do those jobs.
Luna couldn’t have gotten far. Liraes thought as he prowled around the garden in search of Luna. She jumped from a first storey window onto solid concrete with nothing to protect her, she would surely be injured and in no condition to run away, but it looked like she had tried. The stupid girl would never get away from me. He thought as he searched the garden. ***
Everything just seemed a blur to her, images flashed through her mind. the ash in her fathers face. The look of rage as he pointed his wand at her. The sight of concrete rushing towards her face then the ground stopped and instead of falling from a great height she only took the force of a one metre drop as her body crumpled on the ground.
With the wand clutched in her hand as she fell she somehow managed to slow herself down by magic, but the fall had taken the energy from her as she lay waiting for her father to leave the bedroom window, giving her a chance to escape.
It was a struggle to get up off the ground and run but once she had her feet firmly planted on the concrete path she started to run and once she had started she just couldn’t feel like she could stop. Her feelings were a mix of elation and fear, She was finally free from the prison of her home, free to do what she liked. When she liked!
She would do the cooking, washing up and tidying up all day before being her fathers personal slave all night, saying Yes Sir. To all his commands would be a thing of the past. The open road was now her home. She could go wherever she liked but she couldn’t help feeling scared.
She had left her father in a bad state at the house but that wouldn’t stop Liraes Moore. He was an ex-death eater and it took a full team of aurors to arrest him after a huge battle that lasted days, he had sustained serious injuries but would fight to the death if he had to, refusing to ever surrender. They had to take him down the ministry by force. Luna closed her eyes, she would never let anything like that happen to her.
Luna sprinted down the main road out of Farnworth as fast as she could, she wouldn’t dare to look behind her as she ran past muggles curious why a girl wearing strange black robes was running at top speed down a busy street. She didn’t have time to care about that, she looked around for a quiet backstreet where she wouldn’t been seen by any muggles and found one behind the back of Bob’s bakery.
She used to visit Bob almost daily when she was younger, he had helped to care for her when she was at the lowest of the low and even asked if she would like to be adopted but Luna had to refuse. He didn’t know she was a witch and she couldn’t keep that secret from a foster father and her real father had to sign off that he was letting her go and there would be no chance of Liraes Moore surrendering his daughter without a fight, he needed a servant.
She hurried into the back alley and pulled out her wand. She flung her arm out at the side of the road and then came the deafening BANG as the Knight bus, a huge, purple, triple Decker bus appeared out of nowhere on the road in front of her.
A spotty, gangly young man hopped out of the bus and began reading off a small card.
“Welcome to the Knight bus service, the emergency transport for the stranded witch or wizard. I’m Jack Shunpike and I’ll be your conductor for today.” He said trying to imitate a posh voice. He looked at Luna properly. The fall had grazed the side of her face and she was dressed in ragged Slytherin Hogwarts robes. He gave her a funny look when she boarded the bus and paid for a trip to London. She didn’t quite know where she was going but she knew that the best place to start would be London.
