I'd do the same thing. Not only is Dan trying to break free of the Harry Potter image, but it's also blocking the people who went to the play from congratulating him on a job well done.
It also keeps the hallways and doorways free and clear of screaming mad Dan Fangirls that would actually ruin the play for those serious about attending it. Honestly, if you were going to a play and had to hear a bunch of crazed fans of one of the actors during the performance, would you stay? Would you tolerate it?
I wouldn't.
