It was no surprise to Tonks that she fell climbing the steps towards that dreaded stool. McGonagall, the stern woman, looked surprised. Dumbledore, the man with the white beard, seemed to want to laugh. Everyone else tittered as she pulled herself onto the stool.

The hat slid all the way down to her chin once it was set on her head. “Hmmm,” a voice tickled her ear. “Quick mind, a desire to prove yourself, loyal to a fault.” The voice hummed along merrily, and Tonks only just kept herself from arguing with it. “No, you’re fierce. Another Black for GRYFFINDOR.”
