Chapter 15
The Return

Over the next few months, Dezi was finally beginning to enjoy life with friends. One of the big things that she found was her anger for her parents washed away quickly enough. But one thing shook that peacefulness Dezi felt about her family.
In April, she got another package from Harry. It was small, not that much bigger than a ring box. Tucked beneath the ties holding the package together was a letter (she was amazed it could fit under there). She pulled it out and it grew bigger until it became normal size. Dezi opened it, curious. She had never been a fan of packages, every time she got one, it always shook her emotionally somehow.

I was going through my dresser when I found something. I had completely forgotten about it because at the time I saw it, I wanted to forget everything it represented. I still hate it to this very day, but trust me, you will hold it close to you, most likely literally.
Inside is a gift Malfoy; or I should say Draco/your real father, gave to Hermione back in Christmas of 1998. Seeing as I don’t exactly use what he gave her, and I don’t really wish to keep it, I thought you might want ***.

Dezi already felt a blow to her mood. Unwrapping the packaging, she opened the box to see what was inside. She gasped when she was what was inside.
“What?” Cailyn asked curiously.
“Ya, dad, you definitely wouldn’t use this...” Dezi mumbled as she pulled out the silver necklace with a hanging ruby heart. Catching another glimmer inside, she pulled out matching earrings.
“No way...” Cailyn breathed. “That must’ve been worth a fortune!”
Dezi eyed the necklace and earrings, but suddenly a light seemed to shine in her eyes. She started recalling the dreams she had, and in most of them if she looked closely, she saw the necklace around her mum’s neck.
“You ok...?” Kasey, who was sitting opposite of Dezi, snapped her fingers in front of her friend’s face. Dezi blinked and everything went back to normal.
“Yeah, what makes you ask?”
“Your... eyes just... they...” Kasey was speechless for a few moments. “Magenta...”
“Magenta eyes? You’re kidding...”
“No, they just like... clouded over and flickered magenta. Only for a split second, but they did!” Kasey whispered excitedly. “What happened?”
“It was kind of... life flashing before my eyes but it wasn’t... exactly... my life...”
Kasey and Cailyn raised an eyebrow, intrigued.
“How can someone else’s life flash before your eyes then?” Cailyn asked after a few moments of an awkward silence.
“It’s complicated,” Dezi responded, shrugging.
“So... are you gonna try it on?” Kasey asked.
Dezi looked at the necklace and earrings again.
“Not yet...”
“Aw... why?” Cailyn asked.
“It isn’t exactly a gift... nor technically mine.”
“Whose is it then and how’d you get it?”
“My dad. He found them and doesn’t want to remember how they came into his life.”
Kasey eyed the ruby necklace and earrings for a moment
“You dad wore those?” Kasey asked, astounded. Her expression turned into a grossed-out look. “Uh... have you ever thought that...”
“No! They aren’t his!” Dezi cut in, realizing what Kasey actually meant. “They... they were my mum’s...”
“Oh...” the two said at the same time.
