The bright moon reflected off the docile water, cascading its glow upon us. Ced let me sit on the bench first and sat beside me, our bodies touching slightly.
“So, how’s it like, being a Hogwarts Champion and all?” I asked, striking up a conversation. I liked conversation more than silence many a time.
Ced shrugged modestly. “I don’t know. It’s nice, I suppose. But also, there’s a lot of pressure on me to do well in this tournament.”
“The goblet picked wisely,” I commented, making Cedric blush a bit. I loved watching him react to compliments. It was so endearing!
His hand reached hesitantly towards mine, as if debating whether to grab it or not. When he finally decided to hold it, I felt considerably warmer. Then he turned to me and for a moment, I thought he was going to kiss me. Certainly, his face was getting closer to mine, but he didn’t act upon it and I was too nervous to initiate anything.
Instead, he told me quietly, “This has been one of the best nights of my life, Cho.” Smiling, he added, “I hope we can do more stuff like this in the future.”
Now my heart was palpitating. He really did like me. And I liked him. Blushing, I beamed at Cedric, hoping that would express what I thought about him.
The moment was ruined when I gave an involuntary shiver. Noticing that I was chilled, Ced offered, “Do you want to go back inside?” I nodded, and we moseyed to the castle once again.
Later, Cedric walked me back to Ravenclaw tower. Stopping outside the portrait hole, he grasped both of my hands gently. “Thank you for the wonderful night,” he said more sincerely than I would have thought possible.
Warming up even more, I giggled. “Thank you for inviting me.” I ran my thumb across his fingers slowly in that artful way that I was experienced in.
“Any time.” Cedric winked at me cutely and gave me a light peck on the cheek. It was such a small gesture, but it awoke the butterflies in my stomach. When his face drew away from mine, I observed that his cheeks were very rosy.
“Good night,” I whispered, my hands lingering on his before I stepped into my common room.
“Good night,” Cedric replied, the dreamiest expression on his face.
