TOKYO — Movie revenues in Japan hit a record high of 203.2 billion yen in 2003, while tickets sales at cinemas rose slightly from the year before to 162 million, the Motion Pictures Producers Association of Japan said Thursday. Revenues from Japanese films rose 26% from the year before to 67.1 billion yen.

The top-earning Japanese movie was "Odoru Daisousasen The Movie 2," whose English title is "Bayside Shakedown 2," grossing 17.35 billion yen. Among imported movies, sequels proved to be popular. "Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets" took first place with 17.3 billion yen, followed by "The Matrix Reloaded" with 11 billion yen and "Terminator 3" with 8.2 billion yen. (Kyodo News)
