I thought that it was confirmed that the kids were going to be in the 4rth and 5th movies.

I don't know about this director though, I love Star Trek, but I wasn't a fan of Nemesis. I guess it doesn't really matter all that much who the director is though, does it? They've got good material to work with. They can't screw it up too badly.
