Default Championship Match: ENGLAND vs INDIA

It's the moment World Cup fans have been waiting for, but even more, it's the moment all our finest players have been waiting for: the championship match. Many great teams started out in this competition but of course, by nature, the title of #1 is selfish and cannot be shared.

Two teams remain, ready to fight neck and neck at this the 2098 World Cup.

Play fair, no biting, no kicking when the ref can see, and do your respective countries proud. There's a lot of fans seated out in the stands. They're here for a good match and that's what you're here to provide. Can you hear the roar of the crowd? Can you see the blending of colours. Take it all in. The sights. The smells. This moment isn't afforded to everyone--but you're not everyone, are you? No! You're World Cup finalists! This is the moment you've been working toward!

Let the games begin!

The teams playing are ENGLAND and INDIA.

* This is the match thread where the quidditch world cup will be played. Only those on either team mentioned above may post in this thread. Anyone else will be escorted away by Law Enforcement and be appropriately dealt with. Players are advised to have a look over of the rules. Have fun!

This game takes place IC around mid-August

It was too bad that the quaffle hadn't gone in. In Pete's opinion, it looked more like an accidental save than any real skill on the part of India's keeper. That was just his opinion though. And it could have just been his competitiveness talking.

He kept an eye on the quaffle as it was sent back into play. India was in possession, which meant that they were heading back his way. He kept his position, circling the goal posts, ready to dive toward whichever one the chasers tried to score in. At the same time, his attention wasn't so focused that he didn't see bludgers heading toward him. One got awfully close, but he rolled out of the way and kept up his position in front of the goal posts. India wasn't going to get a chance to score if he had anything to say about it.

Lucky save, Renee thought, but she didn't truly mean it. She was just irked that her beautiful shot hadn't been complete. Drat.

But no time to sulk about it. Nisra had quickly regained possession of the Quaffle, and Renee wasn't about to let him make it to Snow unhindered. She bore down on her broom, willing it to move faster through the sky as she circled around and dove in front of him sharply and suddenly, directly in his path. No contact, of course -- she didn't play dirty, thank you very much -- but at least enough to throw him off, cause him to have to make a sudden move. Because sudden moves meant mistakes. And mistakes meant the Quaffle would fly, hopefully into her hands.

Out of the corner of her eye, it looked like Nyx had seen something. Renee couldn't hide the smirk that crossed her face. She had full confidence in her seeker. Those points were as good as theirs.

Meera kept her eyes glued to the sky, searching for any sign of the illustrious snitch. She stayed near the goalposts on her side of the pitch, while also watching for bludgers, but paying little attention to the other action.

Just like that, out of the corner of her eye, she spotted a bludger coming towards her and made to get out of its way, but it got blocked before making it that far. Mayur was great like that. But this is why she was looking out for those flying death machines as well.

Just then, she spotted something golden by the stands. Speeding towards it as fast as possible, she noticed England's seeker going for it as well, coming from the opposite direction. That snitch was HERS. She grabbed for it, right in the spot she knew it was in, hoping to grab not the other seekers hand, but the fluttering metal symbol of victory.

Wow, those England players really liked to obscure her view, huh? Instead of getting mad, though, Aparna moved her goals towards distraction. Specifically, distracting the English Chaser blocking Raju’s path. She flew in perfect circles so close to Golzio that hopefully she could feel the air from her broom. No contact though, she didn’t play dirty either.

Looked like Meera had spotted the Snitch…..

Renee was her name Raju remembered. He had seen her as he soared towards the goal posts. Instinct told him she would create some hurdle for him though he wasn't sure how exactly it would be done. How right Captain Misra was. Raju almost collided with her. Almost. He pulled up sharply with the Quaffle gripped tightly under his arm. Such a dirty tactic even if she was careful not to make contact.

He wasn't going to let her get the Quaffle that easily. Raju threw it towards Arpana. Was he mad at the the English player? No, simply disgusted.

Raju was focused back on the game a second later. Would one of the Indian Chasers catch the Quaffle so that they could keep possession?

Yes indeed, Aparna caught the ball and soared towards the goalposts, abandoning her plan to intimidate the English chaser entirely. Once she was within reach, she lodged the ball towards the shining hoops, watching the ball fly through the air. Come on, make itttt…. she willed. After all, the game was riding on it.

Hovering slightly above Misra. Watching Renee tactically trying to get him to drop the ball. It was annoying that it didn't work, but Leontius didn't let that phase him. He was ready, eye on the prize - so focused on the Quaffle (and the roaring sound of the Bludgers) was he that he didn't even notice the appearance.

Watching Misra throw the Quaffle in Singh's direction, Leon leaned forward. Chest flat to the broom, he closed the distance quickly. One outstretched hand fought for the Quaffle, but alas it was not his. Instead of letting that get to him, he fought to pull is broom slightly in front of Singh's, remaining close, ready to intercept the next pass.

As Singh launched the ball towards the hoops, Leontius went after it.

Pete's attention was on the Indian chasers as they flew toward his side of the pitch with the quaffle. He willed his own teammates to intercept the passes. He knew they were doing the best they could, but the Indian team was very good as well so unfortunately they were unsuccessful. Well, no matter. Now they were approaching his goal posts and he was there, ready to stop their attempts to score. He hovered near the middle, watching carefully to try to anticipate which direction they would go. When the opposing chaser sent the quaffle soaring toward the hoop he shot off in the same direction, his keeper reflexes ready to defend the goal.

With one bludger hurtling towards the English seeker, and their own Seeker hot on the tail of the snitch, Mayur pulled his broom around to find out what else was going on. Where was he and his bludgers needed.

Watching the Indian teams possession of the Quaffle, he looked for the second bludger, noted the miss of the bludger towards Snow and then with Nila went after it so that they could once again aim Snow -- all in the name of India scoring you understand.

For any dimwits in the crowd, English in origin or not: that had not been lucky save. It had been a save. Luck had no part to play, and there is a reason India had not lost any of their last games. They were good, and yes on occasion they made errors, but they were good. Really good.

Herself included.

Shaken from the near miss though, Priya zoned out the crowds and their noises and focused on the chasers and the quaffle they held. One long throw and it would be back here, and she'd be ready for it.

Pavel was hovering, watching the quaffle shift hands as Renee lost it to the Indians, when he saw Nyx take off and the bludger that came after, hot on her tail. Had she spotted the snitch? That Anand wasn't pulling out any stops it seemed to pave the way for his seeker. Speeding up on his own broom and with his bat ready Pavel zoomed like a bullet towards the bludger on Nyx's tail. Eye on the prize. Eye on the prize.

When Pavel came within hitting distance he straightened a little on his broom and swung his bat heavily and heard the wonderful music when bat connected with bludger and he saw it soar off in the direction of Meera Jain. Could that bludger let Nyx get the snitch uncontested please?

Pavel circled around, dodging some players as he looked for the second bludger to hit in direction away from his teammates.

Snow had been lucky to dodge the first bludger, but she was determined to see his luck run out. As the bludger whizzed past the keeper, Nila went in hot pursuit in order to intercept and redirect. Only seconds later, Aparna took a shot on the goal. It was her chance to take Snow out while he was distracted by the quaffle.

Her right arm raised, bat in hand, and she swung with all she had in her. The impact of the bat with bludger sent waves of vibration through her entire body and she smiled at the sight of the bludger heading towards the back of Snow. Would she hit her mark?

Geffrard was still watching, he was watching their every move as the play continued. With his own Quidditch experience he was sure the beaters were watching certain players that seemed to have the ball more than others. This could get good for him if frustrations started to build. The whistle might get some use yet.

Though all at once he saw the seekers going for the stands and his eyes went looking for the golden object they were after, but what he saw put more sweat on his forehead then flying on a warm day. His whistle was being blown as both players were going straight for the British Minister of magic and his pocket watch. His whistle was no good, because it was to late to stop them as both seekers were speeding right for the stands.

The Quaffle seemed to be easily going into Raju's hands as he headed towards the other side of the pitch. He wasn't going to have an easy task though as the England Chasers were hot on his tail. With his pass to Aparna and Aparna sending it towards the hoops it looked like it could possibly be a score for India, especially with Snow coming up just short, but what was going on with the bludgers? The Quaffle was hit by a bludger and knocked away from the hoops and back into the playing field. It was still anyone's game.

What indeed was going on with those bludgers? It looked like the Indian team had them under control, though the one aimed towards the English players didn't seem to hit its target. But the other bludger that went towards Snow seemed to have a different plan of attack. Soon it was flying back the path it came ,hitting the quaffle, Snow’s broom, and ending in a solid hit of Aparna's foot before speeding down the pitch in a crazy spin.

As Meera's hand closed around what she thought would be the snitch, her body prepared to make a quick turn, she suddenly realized it was not the snitch, but the other seekers hand. The snitch, she realized, was either gone, or something in the stands. It should have been RIGHT THERE.

She tried to let go of the other seekers hand, but was unable to control her turn in surprise and sped straight down without letting go. "Ahhh!" she screamed, finally managing to let go.

Was it too late? She turned around to check.

They had missed another opportunity to score. Raju gritted his teeth again. The game was getting insane but he was used to these things. When the Quaffle was hit by the bludger, Raju zoned in on the direction the Quaffle was being hit in. He took off after it at full speed.

The Captain managed to snag the ball right out of the air. Without hesitation he spun around to the English's goalposts. His eyes were peeled for the other Indian Chasers.

Leontius's relief that India hadn't managed to pull ahead with a goal was short-lived. As soon as the bludger hit the Quaffle out of the vicinity of the goalposts and back into play, it seemed like Misra had it in his hand.

Well, there would be little glory in winning against a talentless team, after all. Gritting his teeth, Leontius dived quickly, pulling his broom up alongside the Indian Captain's. Careful not to touch the other man, the English chaser was nevertheless ready to intercept the next pass.

Raju happened to see the unfortunate moment the Bludger smashed into Aparna's foot. He cringed for her and her pain. There was not much time to do so.

With the Quaffle under his arm, Raju dodged around various players. His destination was still for the English players' goalposts. The Captain did need help from his Chasers mainly. He knew he could always count on them to back him up. Naturally the English Chasers would not be far off. Raju spotted McKay right here alongside him.

Raju threw the Quaffle in Arjun's direction. Aparna might not be up for it at the moment.

Pete's eyes were on the quaffle and he was speeding toward it. It was as if he was watching it in slow motion. His hand was going to come up just short of where it needed to be to hit the quaffle away. But then... the bludger. The one that had zoomed past him now seemed to be coming back. It hit the tail of his broom, sending him spinning. But then, luckily, it hit the quaffle as well, hitting it away from the goal posts. Pete got his broom back under control and watched the quaffle go back into the hands of a chaser from India. He spared a glance at the bludger. Something was strange about the way it had moved, but that was more the beaters' concern than his own. His concern was the quaffle. If it was in the hands of the Indian chasers that meant it would be coming back his way. But he would be ready for it when it did.

She watched, heart pounding, as the first bludger missed Snow, but the next bludger, unfortunately, hit the quaffle then bounced off Snow’s broom. It brought her pleasure to see the broom hit, but that was quickly erased as she watched it hit Aparna’s foot. That was going to leave a mark.

Nila bolted down the pitch in hot pursuit of the crazed bludger. She wasn’t going to let another of her teammates fall victim to its attack. Zigging and zagging between the players on the field, she finally caught up to the bludger and swung her bat as hard as she could hoping to make solid contact and send the bludger sailing as far away as possible from Raju who was passing the quaffle to Arjun.

Her eyes focused on the strange movements of one specific bludger, Cynthia's brow furrowed as it hit Snow's broom. There was definitely something wrong here and she spared a glance to the official as she chased after it. Was he seeing this?

Leaning down against her broom, she flew after it, though she saw India's beater had the same idea, and beat her to it. No matter, she recovered quickly and followed its course. A smack of the bat against the bludger once she caught up to it sent it towards the two Indian chasers passing the quaffle.

Whoa, had anyone else seen that? That Bludger had done something weird. Looking at her teammates, it seemed they had noticed, too. But it wasn't her job to worry about that now. It was her job to chase after the Quaffle, which was currently under the arm of one Raju Misra -- a formidable opponent. (She thanked Merlin for that. At least it wasn't a boring game. No point in a competition against a bad team, yeah?)

But no, he passed it, leaving it flying through the air -- just enough for her to swoop in and snatch it. Lucky she'd been close by. Tucking it under her arm, she looped upside down, admittedly showing off her broom skills a bit for the crowd, and darted in the opposite direction, as far away from her team's goals as possible. Not that Snow couldn't hold his own over there, but he probably needed a break after that Bludger, anyway.

She knew they would be on her soon. Where was Leontius? Lamberto? Close by? She needed to keep tabs closely on her fellow Chasers. One of them would likely be receiving her pass soon.

This were shaking up real quick! Bludgers left and right bringing chaos along, one of India's player was unfortunately struck by its wrath. But nevermind that, no time to sympathize with her at least not while the game was still going. There was a lot going on in the field and Lamberto focused his attention on Golzio as she was now in possession of the Quaffle! Finally back in England's mighty hands, which meant he needed to dash towards her and clear path or maybe even receive the ball from her.

Up, down, high, low, side to side, he flew in various directions and in formations he practiced many times before. Speeding by players he kept his guard up for bludgers and proceeded forward as he neared his fellow team chaser, Golzio! Bracing himself Lamberto readied for a catch, steadying himself but keeping guard at the same time.

Nyx realized at the absolute LAST second that it was NOT the snitch that had been glittering in the sunlight. Was that...the Minister for Magic?? She had no time to get a closer look, because if she didn't do something, she was going to crash right in to him. She managed to yank the handle upwards towards her quickly, shooting straight up in the air and narrowly avoiding hitting the man. The yell that she heard from her opponent let her know that Meera had been tricked by the light as well. OR she had just copied her and gone for what she had gone for. Either way, that could have been a disaster.

She floated above the stands as she regained her bearings and looked around. Great. No sign of the REAL snitch anywhere. She sighed heavily, rolled her neck and a few times and cracked her knuckles before heading back to the center of the pitch, ready to resume her hunt again.

Just in time! Lamberto swept up next to Renee just as she was on the lookout for him. An idea -- these long passes were getting intercepted left and right. A close handoff would be better. Catching Lamberto's eye to communicate what she was doing nonverbally, Renee dipped down low to throw off anyone on her tail before pulling back up on Lamberto's other side and subtly shoving the Quaffle in his direction. Would he grab it in time? He'd better get it before someone knocked into her or got between them. She trusted him, but the Indian team was quick. Still, they were quicker. She hoped.

Lamberto gave a nod and followed along with what Golzio was trying to communicate with him. His eyes followed her every move, prepping himself as he clenched his broomstick and kept up with the pace. Reaching his arm out he pressed closer to Golzio and cuffed the Quaffle tightly under his arm!

Smirk. No time to waste! Lamberto dashed down the field securing the ball and making quick turns as he marched on down to the hoops. English chasers better be on standby for a pass or to guard Lamberto and the Quaffle.
