I heard a theory that James was a decendant of Godric Gryffindor, and Harry would be too. And that's why he just wanted to kill those two.

I think that's pretty smart! That would be cool if it were true!
Hermione Weasley,

I think you just might have hit on something also!! If James WAS a direct descendant (and now Harry) of Godric Griffyndor, then that would account for that huge inheritance that James recieved. This would also answer the question: why were James and Lily living at Godric's Hollow? This place must have been the Potter's family ancestoral home.

This would also account for why Mort (Tom Riddle) would want to go after The Potters. Mort wanted to open up the Chamber of Secrets, but couldn't do it with the Potters in the way. He didn't want the decendants of Griffydor to twart his fulfilling Salazar Slytherin's "great work" of ridding the school of mudbloods or half n' halfs.

Interesting that he pulled out Godric Gryffindor's sword out of the Sorting Hat -- eh?
