DUSSELDORF - Newspapers published by homeless people in Germany went on sale at 12:01 a.m. Saturday with a special treat - an excerpt from the fifth Harry Potter book.

Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling gave the papers permission to publish the German version of the first chapter of "Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix" to boost sales of the papers. The papers' profits go toward projects benefiting homeless people.

The German translation of the book will hit bookstores in Germany, Austria and Switzerland in two weeks.

But 11 newspapers across Germany went on sale at the stroke of midnight as Harry Potter fans lined up to get their hands on a preview of what to expect in the latest book about the popular wizard in training.

Another 13 papers in various German cities were to follow in the coming weeks.
