Default Arithmancy Lesson 1: Mechanical Calculators, an Introduction

Beauxbatons was cold and drafty as blizzards wailed outside the frozen windows, obscuring the usually breathtaking view of the Pyrenees and causing the palace to feel moody and cramped, even more than usual. Ayana hated it with a passion, missing the mountains of the moon quite desperately these days, but there was nowhere to run. Luckily for her - but perhaps not for her students, opinions usually vary - this lesson was one she always particularly enjoyed teaching and she was all smiles as she set up her classroom. Chairs lined up behind desks that were in turn lined up to face the board. The front desk sported a large, old looking wooden crate about half a meter in diameter and the blackboard boasted some friendly arithmetic calculations. One plus six, four times seven, one hundred and thirty five divided by nine, nice things like that. Ayana herself was leaning against her desk, peering into the crate with a small frown.

Come on in and settle down, Thursday's afternoon Arithmancy class is about to begin.

_____________

OOC: Hello and welcome to the first Arithmancy lesson of the term! This is NOT the first lesson in character as it's December already and everyone's already very much acquainted with Ayana and her deep love of Arithmancy, clean uniforms and thinking outside the box. I opened this lesson a wee bit early so you have pleeeeeenty of time (over 24 hours!) to post your characters arriving before the lesson begins. Woo! We're off! The lesson has started.

Lesson progression:
Part 1: It's not a pop quiz!
Part 2: What do you know about mechanical calculators?
