Maxie's attention was pulled from his conundrum as Professor Simran spoke laying out the rules of this quiz bowl with all her usual cheeriness. How anyone could remain so content and happy with students missing and an uncertain doom hanging over their head... Maxie had very little idea. He flushed, the first question would be so very easy to twist and before the very competitive Hufflepuff could stop himself he let out an answer. "F-Frankenstein. D-doctor Frankenstein created the stone." He paused, astonished by his own words. ".... H-he was 25 w-when h-h-he died." The answer to Maxie's question, had he ever voiced it to Simran, was that she was extremely practiced in the art of fake-it-till-you-make-it. It would not do for Professors to lose their heads in front of students -- if they did, where would the children turn to when they felt panicked themselves?
Her job was to listen, and to provide as normal an environment for them as she could. And right now, also to run this Quiz Bowl. "I like that," she said, nodding. He was setting the tone pretty well, if she did say so herself. Simran Sandhu was impressed. "Very well done, Master Anderson-Belfort."

She would have walked straight out of the room if she didn't think she'd draw attention to herself for doing so. How was there any point to giving incorrect answers? The purpose behind quiz bowl was to educate. To award students for their knowledge. Awarding points to incorrect answers only taught anyone that their lack of studying was not an issue. And. It. Was. No wonder Hogwarts' was beginning to fail as an academic institution. There was no way they would let this happen at Beauxbatons.
Nina Castillo did not like this rule. She did not like it at all. Her frown only grew when the younger Hufflepuff kid decided to buy into the silly 'game'. Why was he entertaining this? It was ridiculous. It was ridiculous, Nina Castillo. That was the point. The first gathering of a Quiz Bowl couldn't possibly expect everyone to be prepared with trivia -- it was asking too much from a group of students already stressed out.
Have no fear, though, a regular Quiz Bowl was in the cards for not too long after.
As for Beauxbatons? Simran always had a deep distaste for their pompousness. Not everything had to be taken dead seriously, you see? Quote:

...but the prefect had to admit. He was thrown by the request that they give wrong answers. Not just wrong ones...outrageously wrong. So, the tall tales needed to fly? That was an interesting twist to keep it exciting (and entertaining).
He really liked Max's answer, though. In support, Aaron reached around and nudged the kid's shoulder. As if to say 'Good one!'. Entertainment was the goal here, Master Botros. To give the students something to talk about that wasn't the mist. It was always a good idea not to take oneself too seriously, that they couldn't participate in a Troll Bowl.

He was all for creative thinking, actually if he were ever to become a professor (mediwizard was his goal for now but futures could change) he'd encourage it but wasn't the whole purpose of a quizbowl to prove and share your academical knowledge and being rewarded for giving the right answer? But. He also liked winning. And if his House had to win by playing this ridiculous rule, so be it. He sat more upright but did not slam the buzzer. He'd let Analiese take this answer as she had already pressed it and gave her a quick thumbs up. Ridiculous rules were still rules, even if they were only for this particular tournament. The trolliest of Troll Answers. Complete with an actual mountain troll.
"Mountain trolls aren't terribly bright, it's such a sad way to go. I love it." "This is a tough one," she said, thoughtful. After a pause, she flicked her wand at the board, animating a piece of chalk. "Unfortunately, there can only be one winner, and I have to give this win to Hufflepuff for being just wrong enough to suspend belief while being pretty hilarious."
Sorry, Miss Winklebleck. She really did love your answer. Maybe you'd get the next one?
