Vita watched the scene unfold around her, feeling very far away from it all. Her things were in the common room. Everything she had left from her old life, everything she had left of her mom. Though the elves seemed to have the ability to get their belongings, the seventh year wasn't yet convinced they'd do so safely or successfully. They were panicked, the things they were saying...it made her stomach drop.
...And then the mention of missing students was thrown into the mix. Relief washed over her knowing that neither of the missing classmates were Slytherins, and the thought was followed by overwhelming guilt. How could she have thought such a thing? Rubbing her forehead, she tried to keep the constant wave of emotions at bay and find something resembling clarity. She needed to think clearly, be on alert. Constant vigilance... Clearly some of the adults in this room weren't capable of that, flying off the handle and making accusations and generally adding more fear to an already scary situation.
Focusing on the headmaster, Vita waited for him to give the prefects direction. She needed a task. She wanted one. She was all ears.
