Sporting one of the red shirts and a nice tan courtesy of his vacation in India, Conley appeared in the bowling alley carrying his own bowling shoes in his hand. If they thought he was going to use house shoes, they were nuts because a) he knew how they cleaned them [shudder] and b) any respectable bowler owned their own shoes. Conley’s shoes were a bit on the retro side, which he had always liked, and even better, they went with his chosen shirt. It felt odd being at a work function in a t-shirt and jeans, but he wasn’t about to bowl in a suit. He just wished this was a muggle bowling alley – because then he would have been able to use a normal bowling ball…

Nothing in the red, they had all made sure of that, but things were a little tight since they had gone all out to ensure the event went off mostly without a hitch. There was still something to be said about that bludger situation - and Charles had had a good chuckle reading the Prophet article that implied that it was a blushing piece of quidditch equipment - while investigations continued, but all and all...it had been fantastic and the world view of the British Ministry of Magic was properly on the up. Finally, they had officially dug themselves out of the whole that Nickles had dug for them.

Standing behind the counter near the t-shirt for now, he himself donning a polka dot one, the greying man greeted each employee flamboyantly and with his signature dashing grin.

"Looking well, Carter."

"Excellent choice, Emilia."

"That purple looks smashing on you Mariana."

"Welcome to the Ministry little miss!"

"What a smart looking couple!"

"Purple, an excellent choice. Welcome to the Ministry!"

"Chin up, son. This is a party, not a funeral."

Charles chest puffed out a bit and he regretted not bringing his grandchildren along for the evening. Or his own children. Though they had had their fill of Ministry functions in Japan during the winter break.

He would get to his lane soon enough.

Conley gave his boss a wave as he swept by, chatting amiably with most of the workers. There didn’t appear to be many department heads or people from DIMC here, but it was still early. He felt a little lonely and wished briefly that his boyfriend was here, but he knew (all too well) that Sachin was busy working. It was perhaps, the fact that they had spent the last week together that was making him lonely. However, it was time to but on his work face and get out and mingle.

Helping himself to a butterbeer, Conley wandered trying to decide what pair of lanes to join. His understanding was that he didn’t need to share a lane with other people on his ‘team,’ but maybe he’d find one or two to chat with for a few minutes. Instead he found one of his new hires. ”Miss Ainsley,” he said chipperly walking nearby, shoes still gripped in his hand. ”Glad you could make it. Bowl often?”
