be curious, not judgmental

Listen, Tag had no interest in wasting anyone's time - not the professor's, and certainly not his own. For the first half of the school year, the boy had observed. Watched. Waited. It wasn't always entirely intentional - the Ravenclaw just happened to be out and about, taking a walk, going for a run, and trying to sneak playtime with his dogs when Tag didn't think the professor was in. To the groundskeeper, it may have just seemed like coincidences that Tag was around when he was either arriving or leaving his hut, and a significant portion of the time, it was.

But Tag was keeping track. The guy's schedule was largely erratic and seemingly unpredictable, but there were tell-tale signs that he was in his hut. In this case, today, he had simply seen him walking the dogs no less than thirty minutes ago. The dogs always went back to the hut, and the guy wasn't always that quick to get back up to the castle when he needed to be. He took his time, as if he didn't entirely want to be going wherever he was going, and Tag was approximately eighty-nine percent certain that Fuller-Thompson was still behind the door upon which he lifted a hand to knock.

Knock, knock, knock.

He exhaled a slow, visible breath into the stinging winter air. For the briefest of moments, he considered bolting, but it wouldn't work out well on the grounds like it did in the hallways of the castle. So, he planted his feet firmly in place, swallowed his pride, and focused on appearing less anxious than he felt.
