Text Cut: Question 1
Herbology was one of the few classes at Hogwarts that Tina still enjoyed. As such, she was here and had been diligently following along the whole time. She had to admit, she was a little wary of the unusual time and setting upon arrival. If there was one thing she'd learned at Hogwarts, it was that lessons at weird times and places were generally chaotic. Oh, okay, evergreens… that sounded safe and straightforward, just the way she liked things!

She considered the first question asked as she listened to her classmates' answers. As she did so, an idea came to her - an idea she knew her former charms professor father figures would be proud of! Her hand went up, and after being called on, she said, "This might be off track, but some types of evergreens, such as spruce, cedar, and pine, are used as wand woods."

So they were planting rapid grow blue spruces today.. she might've guessed. Well, that explained the field, and Tina supposed it could be a lot worse. A spruce tree wasn't going to bite or sting or spray her with something, unlike some magical plants! She listened carefully to Professor Sutton's instructions, making a mental note of the required dimensions for the holes. She was glad to hear that yardsticks were provided! Tina was nothing if not a stickler for precision!

Tina grabbed a shovel and yardstick, and while she was there, she picked up a pair of cloth gardening gloves too. She had her own dragonhide ones, of course, but after hearing the professor's thoughts on which gloves to use, she opted for the cloth ones instead. Supplies in hand, she found the perfect spot for her holes on the far side of the field, well away from anybody else. She laid her yardstick on the ground in front of her and make a couple of marks with the tip of her shovel to map out exactly one foot in diameter; then she measured out three feet and repeated the process to plan her other hole. Hopefully the marks she made in the soil would last until she finished digging her first hole… she did not want to have ti measure twice!

Now Tina just needed to decide whether to use the shovel or her wand to dig. Despite having dropped Charms this term, she was never one to shy away from showing off her wandwork - that she'd learned from the real charms experts in her life - but she wondered if the gouging spell's results would be too imprecise for their purposes today. She decided to start with her wand, then use her shovel to even out the size if needed. Holding her right arm out, she steadily aimed her wand at a point between the marks she'd made. "Defodio!" she said, visualizing a hole exactly one foot deep and one foot in diameter.

Tina examined the hole her spell had made. The diameter looked about right, but when she stuck the yardstick in the hole to measure the depth, it was a couple of inches too shallow. Oh, well… nothing a little shoveling couldn't fix. She traded her wand for the shovel and set to work digging the few inches that her gouging spell left off, and as she did, she found the manual labor strangely calming… so much so that she just stuck with shoveling for her second hole.

Text Cut: Question 2
Tina had just finished arranging the dirt in a neat little pile next to her second hole when Professor Sutton asked the next question. She bit her lip, lost in thought. Could rapid growth trees be used to combat deforestation? It stood to reason that one could plant a bunch of rapid growth trees to quickly replace the trees that had been lost, so that was an advantage, right? Just not one she felt confident about enough to voice out loud… especially not after that Hufflepuff prefect opened her mouth.

She stayed quiet, listening intently to the professor's next set of instructions. Mumbling matagots, that was… a lot to take in! So ˝ l water and 1 drop fertilizer in each hole, then seeds, then dirt, then 1 drop fertilizer each 6 inches and 1 l water at each 12 until the trees reach 5-7 feet, then a drop of red liquid from the vial? Was she remembering all that right? Thank goodness it was all on the board, in case she forgot anything! Not that that was likely to happen… Tina had an excellent memory!

She filled a watering can and brought it back to her station. paying careful attention as she poured to make sure she had exactly ˝ l in each hole. Then she added a drop of fertilizer to each hole. Now it was time for seeds! Tina went back to retrieve a couple of seeds and carefully deposited them into her holes, gently covering them with dirt (but not over-packing it) when she was done.

Now came the hard part - and by "hard part", Tina meant the careful, precise work that she actually enjoyed and excelled at! She stood halfway between her two holes, her dark eyes glued to her emerging trees. So if they grew at a rate of one foot every five minutes, that meant fertilizer every 2.5 minutes. She consulted her watch, and at the 2 minute mark, she went to get some fresh fertilizer. By the time she got back, it would be about 2.5 minutes. Upon returning, she held her yardstick up to the growing trees… 6 inches exactly!

Tina gave each tree a drop of fertilizer, then continued monitoring both the trees and the time for the next 2 minutes. This time her trees would need fertilizer and water. as 12 was a multiple of 6, right? She went to refill her dropper from the fertilizer cauldron. Merlin, this was going to be a lot of running back and forth, wasn't it? Good thing she was in shape and fairly fast! As soon as her trees reached exactly a foot in height, she added the fertilizer and 1 l of water. She repeated the process of monitoring, measuring, and adding fertilizer and/or water until her trees reached 6 feet… a few inches taller than her but still short enough for her to reach the top.

Tina went to fill her dropper with the liquid from the vial and applied one drop to each of her now fully grown trees. Perfect! She stood, admiring her trees for a minute, before going back for the final time to gather some decorations. She could already visualize the finished product in her mind's eye. She wasn't decorating for the holiday or for house pride; her trees, like everything she'd done since she came to Hogwarts, were going to be an homage to the person who should've been here alongside her. She chose balls, stars, and drops in shades of black, purple, red, and gold - she even found a couple of lions. Did she know how weird it probably looked for a Ravenclaw to decorate with Gryffindor colors? Yes. Did she care? Not at all.

She mentally separated each tree into four sections (left, right, front, and back) and set to work placing the black and purple decorations on the side sections and the red and gold ones on the front and backs. After placing the lion ornaments front and center on each tree. she stepped back to admire her work. It… needed something else. Too bad she couldn't find any purple butterfly ornaments! The thought crossed her mind to ask Professor Sutton if she could charm some of the ornaments to look like butterflies, but she figured the answer would probably be no. Then it came to her - her butterfly hair clips! Those were hers, so she shouldn't get in trouble for charming them. She removed the tiny butterflies from her dark hair and cast an enlargement charm on them. When they were about the size of her fist, she stopped the spell and carefully clipped each one to the top branch of a tree as if it was a star topper. There, now it was perfect!
