Oh hey, look here. There was hope for this subject still.

The praise mostly had Eiji tuning out everything else, his eyes instead focused in the collection of random objects - the elephants in particular. He wasn't sure why the elephants to be honest. He had never been particularly drawn to them. They had always been Auntie Ella's to fawn over and he to help with the cookie decorating if anything. Maybe there was a bit of a pull at nostalgia, for whatever reason, and that it why he was fixating on them so much.

Though his attention was drawn from elephants to the professor as she moved on to the next bit of her lecture. Congratulations, professor, you now had Eiji's undivided attention. Though he had no real vested interest as to the state of his own spells and enchantments, but what window of possibility this did open up was the state of his potions - the brewing itself and his ingredients. This...Arithmalethilogy, had conservation potential. Knowing when an ingredient was ripe enough for picking and which were not. Which were stronger than others so as not to waste them on simpler brews. Likewise, since Nina was always botching potions on purpose, he could give her the weakest and spoiled ones from the batch to at least give some reason as to why her potions failed and to clean out his supplies without the feeling of waste becoming too much of a burden.

Yes, the fires of motivation had been reignited.

However, by the time he had arrived at her desk ... the elephants were all gone so he had to settle on a bottled flutterby bush. Not too much of a loss though...he could give it a pruning between practices and put the clippings into one of the phials he kept in his robes.

But...first things first. Incantation practice.

"Emfanizo Arithmou," he muttered to himself, mostly in a robotic monotone voice to begin simply to make sure he had all the syllables down and pacing correct before he worked on intonation and applying the wand movement to it as well. A few minutes later, when he was feeling confident enough, he turned his wand to the bush and gave his wand a whirl over it and then...waited.

Nothing. He brushed it off as another round of practice, rolling up his sleeves and giving things another go.

This time a few numbers in the sequence appeared, but each more faded than the previous until the final three or so in the sequence was not visible at all...causing the fourth year's brow to furrow in frustration. This was actually a useful spell. He needed to get it right.

He blamed his deskmate. She was being so loud in all her mutterings. Even worse that she managed it before him.
