Hey, it wasn't completely left field, as she hadn't exactly been descriptive with her question. He was, if anything, just offering another alternative to going to Hogwarts that didn't involve the platform, which was something that was asked, was it not?
Not nervous? Lies though because despite his often clueless demeanor, he did detect she was nervous or she'd have already been on the train.
