Sighing a little, Derf slid his hands into his pockets and rocked a bit more back and forth on his heels. He was realizing in this moment that, while he considered Zoryn a friend, he really didn't understand her. Understand in the sense of having some sort of awareness as to why she was this way. He knew how she thought and worked based on observation alone, it was easy to recognize flight or fight instincts in creatures and Zoryn's pattern was predictable to anyone who knew what they were looking for. But...what he didn't know was why, not like he understood why Picketta was still wary around witches and wizards since it had been their kind who had chopped down her first Home Tree and destroyed her sense of security.
But...what had made Zoryn be this way?
"...why do you want me to hate you, Zoryn?" he asked instead. Though he was hardly going to think pushing him away. "What...do you think I am going to do to you by wanting to be your friend?"
