...

Oh, so she'd been right. There were lots of plants with medicinal properties, many that her own mother had used for different things when she'd first gotten sick. It was because of this that Vita had no shortage of answers to give.

"Aloe, Professor. I've seen it used on burns and irritated skin."
'Good morning Ms Marin.ä Professor Wishart had greeted with a welcoming smile a few minutes earlier.

Vita was later the first to raise her hand and give an answer to the first question. Turning his gaze to the Ravenclaw Professor Wishart smiled wide. "Very good Vita. Aloe is used in medicin as well as skin and hair products since it has healing properties and can as you meantioned be used on burns and against irritated skin." Maybe something Derf and Sterling should use?

Natalie followed bringing up an unlikely plant, but still one that had many healing uses. "Correct Natalie! Eating chamomille leaves is good if you need to strenghten your immune system against diseases and the tea has a soothening effect that is often good to drink before bed if you have trouble sleeping. It helps with the unquiet mind as my grandmother always said."[/B] Professor Wishart said with a smile over at the snake prefect.

"Good Ashleigh! Rosemary has since the middle ages been used for helping with remembering when your memory is a bit clouded or so. Its in more recent years that muggle doctors have found that it can help those patients with Alzheimers that is starting to loose their memories." Professor respondly kindly to the badgerette.

Calming down, the Slytherin raised his own arm in the air.

His mother was a Healer, so despite being terrible at Herbology, he'd picked up a thing or two when it came to healing. "There's dittany, sir. Good for wounds I've heard."
"Excellent Maxton, dittany has quite a few healing properties and healing wounds is one of them." Professor Wishart said with a wink and an encouraging glance towards the prefect. He was so happy that Maxton was engaging himself when at first he had entered silent as a mouse.

"Aloe is a plant with great healing properties. It's especially good for sunburns," she explained.
"Good Trinetta, Aloe is actually one of the most favoured plants to use in sunburn productics from chapsticks to oils and salves to be applied topically to the skin." Professor Wishart responded with a cheery glance over at the ravenclaw.

Did he just detect a bit of something something in Caolan’s voice which was directed at Maxton. Was there bad blood blood brewing there perhaps? Professor Wishart had no time to dvelve on that more since Caolan supplied a very good answer. "Wonderful Caolan, yes Dittany is definitley one of the most important herbs for healing wounds and cuts on both humans and werewolves."

Zoryn shot up a hand to give an answer which he in his mind hadn’t counted on but was very happy and appreciative that she did which showed in Prof Ws’s voice. "Very good Zoryn. Peppermint is good for curing headaches yes but also for soothing the whole nervesystem of the body if you have cramps for instance."

He knew about aloe because he had to use it all of the time when he got sun burnt during the summers playing baseball. He raised his hand, "Ginkgo leaves extract help with asthma or bronchitis." He paused not sure how he wanted to mention the next part, "if you don't use the extract properly you could induce seizures." he grimaced at the thought of causing seizures from not properly using the leaf.
He’d keep an eye on Patrick to see that the boy was warming up because if he wasn’t then maybe he needed to be sent to see Professor Adara. Anyway Patrick soon after stuck his hand up to answer. Gingko leaves was another unusual healing plant to be brought up but maybe someone had been reading their textbook? Nodding to Patrick Prof W responded kindly. "Good, good Patrick. Gingko leaves can help with breathing problems but if you use more of the leaves that what is the recommended dosage then yes it can in the worst cases induce seizures." He shuddered at the thought. Plants were supposed to heal not damage.

"Joszef, don’t you have an answer to share?" Professor Wishart asked, as he eyes stopped on the second year lion. He thought that most of his students would have had some experience with healing plants since scrapes and cuts we’re common at a young age.

I don't know if it's very effective, but it is technically a healing plant."
Professor Wishart turned to Mary next with a smile pursing his lips as he nodded. "Good Mary, Jewelweed has healing properties and it get’s rid of both fungus as you said and also ringworms on the feet." Ringworms and fungus were yuck. He didn’t like to have problems with his feet.

Perks of having muggle doctor grandparents.

Magical stuff she wasn't as sure about. Mum and dad didn't let her play around with the potions cabinet. Something about her dad having a bad experience growing up?
Valencia’s hand came up next and she brought up a muggle plant. Smiling Professor V responded "That’s correct Valencia, ginger soda or tea is often given to those that feel nauseous to make the nausea go away, sometimes it works." Unless of course the nausea was a prelude to another illness like say a stomach bug.

"Very good Chloe, both the willows bark and leaves too are anti-inflammatory and can used to treat pain and fever. The willow’s medicinal uses have been written about since the fifth century BC." Professor W rounded off with a cheery smile in the ravenclaw’s direction.

Hearing Jade’s answer he flashed back to the recent shrivelfig lesson that he had taught, but maybe that was last year and thus she had no experience since she was a first. Nevertheless though he was happy she brought it up. Shooting the young first year a beam he responded. "Correct Jade, Shrivelfigs leaves from Abyssinia have medicinal properties and are used in several healing potions."

"Good Daisy, moly is a magical plant that which can if eaten raw can reverse the effects of enchantments and also is an ingredient in the powerful healing potion know as Wiggenweld." Professor Wishart said with a cherry glance over in the prefect’s direction.

" My grandma uses Lavender, the oil that is, it's antibacterial helps with pain and itching as well as promotes rapid healing on scars." she said remaining silence not knowing if that was a good answer or not.
Stella stuck her hand up next and Professor W turned his gaze to her with an encouraging nod. "Very good Stella! Lavender is indeed antibacterial which means that it helps cure bacterias related to pain and itching and help quicken the healing of scars." A good use, since most people didn’t like to show scars.

"Correct Tina, feverfew is a plant with many healing uses but yes traditionally its used to treat fevers, migraines and arthrities." Professor W responded back with a cheery smile.

It was also used to flavor food and drinks in the U.S. but that had nothing to do with the current question. There was no need in getting ahead of herself with her answers.
Rylee mentioned the plant which Joshua would have thought would have been on the first student's tongues but no. "Correct Rylee, there is always valerian root. Valerian is a very common plant that has healing properties that are used to treat insomnia and anxiety but you need to use it with caution because eating too much can have reverse effets." Prof W finished with a smile in the lioness direction.

"I heard it taste disgusting though..."
Among the last to raise hand was Dorian. Turning to look over at the ravenclaw Professor Wishart nodded encouragingly. "Good Dorian, St john's wort can be used to treat bruises, sores and depression." Even if he doubted the last. "I haven't tasted the tea but it's possible that the taste isn't very good."

Yeah...he would just sit - er, scratch - this one out.
Looking over at Derf that was uncharestically quiet and still scratching his neck Professor Wishart asked slightly worried now."Derfael don't you have an answer to provide to the discussion? Also you shouldn't scratch your neck so much it will just make the itching you seem to have worsen." It was something he had learned from experience.

"You are correct Abraham dock leaf help's lessen the stinging sensation you feel if you are stung by a nettle. It is a common muggle remedy that works." Professor W assured the prefect with a smile even if he himself had no nettle remedy experience to speak of.

She raised her hand to give her answer. "The bubotuber plant. Well... the pus that it produces. It can help heal pimples if it's dilute enough."
"Good Hanna! Bubotuber is a very effective plant that is used to treat the pimples that all teenagers hate."Professor Wishart said with a cheery smile in the young claw's direction. Pimples we're horrible.

Clapping his hands to get attention again Professor Wishart said with beam across his face. "Very good everyone! It makes me very glad to hear that so many of you are knowledge about what healing plants exist in the world and their uses."

Professor Wishart walked over to grab one of the plant's from an unoccupied table before he turned to the class with it in his arms. "Today we are going to be working with and discussing the powerful healing and restorative plant that Maxton and Caolan brought up meaning the Dittany for the rest of the class."

He paused for moment or two before he continued "Dittany or the burning bush as it's called is used to make fresh skin grow over open shallow wounds and cuts and is an ingredient in the wiggenweld potion. Before we get practical can you all think of any other possible uses for dittany? Or situations where using dittany can be beneficial?"

OOC: Question 2 is up! Just have your student think of other uses for dittany or situations where using dittany can be beneficial to solve a problem or situation. Brainstorm, be creative! All answers are accepted both correct, wrong and quirky. Catching up is allowed throughout the lesson. Lesson will move on in ca 24 hours.
