The next part was using the sticking charm so that the stick and rock were one. "Sure," she said. She heard someone using Adhaero, but decided to go with the permanent sticking charm, which was also the one she had the most experience with. Especially clothes and parchment. "I'm going to use the permanent sticking charm." She gathered her things to be with her, then aligned the stick in the middle of her rock. Her wand still in hand, she pointed it to the part where the stick touched the rock and said "Diutirnus affigo," as she gave her wand a small flick, touching the rock-stick contact point. She let go of the hand holding the stick, and it remained upright to her relief. "It's just Diutirnus affigo," not that they were the easiest of incantations, "And a small flick, pointing at what you want to stick together."

She ripped a small piece of parchment from one of her rolls, writing her name on it in black ink. She smoothed it out on the side of her rock, pointed her wand at it and cast the same permanent sticking charm on it to fix the parchment to the rock. She didn't want to scratch or blunt the quill she had in her bag by writing with it on the rock.
Jade grinned back at the girl, as a way of showing her gratitude. It was awfully nice of her to teach her spells like this, even though she was in no way obliged to do so.

She watched again, paying particular attention to the incantation, as the older Ravenclaw taught her the permanent sticking charm. "Diutirnus affigo, Diutime - I mean, Diutirnus affigo, Diutirnus affigo," she muttered under her breath several times to get the pronunciation right. Then, she placed her stick upright in the middle of her rock. She pointed her wand at the place where the stick and the rock met, but realised that her other hand was covering it and quickly moved it up. She almost permanently glued her hand to an ugly rock and stick! Relieved that she had avoided the disaster, the first year returned her focus on the spell and said clearly, "Diutirnus affigo." The incantation was followed by a small flick, directed at the point of contact. She could not immediately tell if her attempt was successful, but when she let go of the hand holding the stick, she was surprised but delighted to find that it was firmly attached to the rock.

"Thank you so much! I learned SO MUCH from you today. I'm Jade, by the way," she beamed as she scribbled down her name on the small piece of parchment she cut out earlier from her practice and stuck it onto her sundial. It wasn't a super pretty sundial, but it would do.
