Default Catch up through Station 3, arriving at station 4!

Jackson brought his attention to his Quidditch Captain, wondering if it would be a relief that she was changing up the try out from last year. He was looking over at the pitch while their instructions were given, and at her say so, he got up with Kye’s broom. They were going to start with laps, which Jackson couldn’t be more grateful for. Niiice and easy start. He headed to the start line and got ready. He found a spot between some of the younger looking Claws. He was glad that they seemed to have a good turnout. He had to admit that he had a little bit of a rough take off, but luckily he recovered fairly quickly and completed the laps without further hiccups. He landed in the middle of the pitch as instructed and looked over the obstacles. Oh Merlin he hoped his confidence in himself hadn’t been misplaced.

He looked at the hoops as Juni told them step one here. He wondered what made her decide to use these instead of the regular hoops, but he wasn’t here to ask questions! Jackson picked up one of the bats and tried a few practice swings. He had played some Quidditch for fun, but the rules were definitely loose and his cousin was probably going way too easy on him. Darn you, Kye! Not really. He watched as a few Housemates went before him, and then he got ready. He wondered if the smooshy bludgers would be easier or harder to hit because of that fact, but he was going to find out. How experienced was everyone else? Had they been practicing for this forever or had they made the decision to try out recently? Bat in hand, he made his way up to a proper spot and wound up for the hit.

.........................

And that first hit was anything but. He had hit the thing, but it didn’t go nearly far enough. He may as well have just asked it nicely. He raised his eyebrows at himself and tried again, recalibrating. This time, he at least got better distance, but it hit the outside of the middle hoop and fell. “Well I can say that this is the fastest time elapse I’ve ever been a part of!” he joked, although the likelihood of someone hearing his joke was pretty low. He took a breath to regather some focus, as he probably should have done at the beginning, and tried again. He tried to remember how he swung that last one and tried to readjust it. He squared his shoulders, took another breath, and swung again. Aaaaaand nice! He had managed to get it through the hoop on the right. He gave a little smile and turned to the next station.

He looked for any kind of pattern or gaps and worked his way through. He was doing a relatively good job if he was being honest! But the speed aspect was still new to Jackson, so he was working on his balance as well. He had almost made it out of the alley when WHACK! He was hit. A bludger had managed to hit him in the hip. Seriously, the hip? Thanks, Bludger. Finally though, he was through. Hip throb and all. Luckily he had a moment before his turn at the third station so he could watch some of the others with the quaffles.

Soon enough, it was his turn and his eyes were looking for the quaffles. Why couldn't he use a bat for this too? That would be easier maybe? No? He watched as one by one, he was attacked by the flying red balls and he realized he hadn't really trained for this. He could catch things, but he hadn't practiced while on a broom. Oops. He steadied himself around the middle post. Nervously, and becoming more and more aware of the bruise forming on his hip, he began doing what he could... including actually just pushing a quaffle to the side, miss, miss, hitting one with his broom somehow, and then... he was having a hard time saving a third one. It took a few more tries, but he finally managed it. He had realized he was getting too committed to each goal post and had to be a bit quicker than he was. At least now though, he could move on to station 4.
