Seeing someone sitting reading he ventured over, "H.. hello" was all he could squeak out for the moment.

Joan looked up. She hadn't expected someone to talk to her. "Hi," she said. The boy standing next to her was quite shy, she could tell. "My name is Joan, what's yours." She would have preferred to continue reading, but it was what it was.
