Oh for the love of Merlin.

This time, Jessa did react beyond her usual, impassive stare. The girl rubbed tiredly at her face wondering if at this point things could get any worse. As it turned out, yes, yes they could. Her heart must have skipped every beat for the last minute or so. Her chest was doing very strange things and that awful flipping sensation doubled when the man said they were to go with him.

Him? Go? Back to class? Was he thinking at all??

Perhaps he was. It was just like the man to find a reason to punish them too. She was a smart girl, if not somewhat pessimistic and could more or less tell where this was going. Stewart had gotten sacked. Now the man and O’Hara were on about his actions not being tolerated. It didn’t take much to put two and two together.

Blue eyes shot to Derf, the worry in them plain. If the man was going to get the axe, it was awful forcing them to watch. It seemed this night was damned from the start. Derf had told. Had she stayed, Scrimgeour would’ve shown up and seen her there not putting a stop to things. Leaving....well she was seeing what that got her.

Where before she had a decent chance of putting this behind her, she was acutely aware now that showing up with the Headmaster to get Mr. Kennedy sacked was going to make her look like an absolute rat—something she was not. Her classmates would link whatever happened directly to her and Derf’s walk out. They’d think she wilfully went to find the Headmaster and really was in his pocket. It wasn’t the sort of label to strive for with the current school climate.

The Ravenclaw thought to decline but the finality in the man’s voice set her feet moving even when she didn’t want to follow.
