"Good evening, Headmaster!" Alice returned Mr. Scrimgeour's greeting, and would have straightened even more in his presence than she was already if that were possible. Alas, that was impossible - the History of Magic teacher's back was always straight as a ruler.
Now that he was here there was no need for her to continue questioning the prefects - their answers would be directed towards him. She crossed her hands behind her back and listened as Prefect Ashburry-Hawthorne blurted out a long stream of words explaining the situation. He was a nervous one, that Derfael, but at least it seemed he (and Jessa) had done the right thing by not participating in the rule breaking.
"It must have been you who filed the report, am I correct, Prefect Hawthorne?" There was open approval in her voice as she asked this. She hoped Julian would agree with her that this act of loyalty deserved a reward. She looked at Julian as she finished this question. "I am shocked that Professor Kennedy is forcing our students to break school rules. Such behavior would never be tolerated in Romania."
She then turned back to the two prefects and repeated the names of the other students who Derfael had said left class. "Zoryn and Natalia also left? Any others?"
