Scamander Zoo Celebrates 80 Years
February, 2096
by: Brutus Trimble

Scamander Zoo, Britain's primary magical creature sanctuary, today celebrates its eightieth anniversary of the facility's founding and reopens its doors after being on a short hiatus for renovations.

The zoo was founded by members of the Scamander family in February of 2016 with the purpose of providing the creatures that renowned magizoologist Newton Scamander wrote about in Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them with a place of refuge. Furthermore, the zoo was to also provide a means for the wizarding population to connect with the creatures residing there in a safe, contained environment. Starting off by maintaining a collection of creatures native to Britain, Scamander Zoo has since expanded to beasts from around the world for study and conservation. Hundreds of thousands of wizards and witches have gone the zoo since its opening and the number of visitors continues to grow.

"I am proud of the work that has been happening here," shared Jonah Scamander, director of the zoo. "We remain very focused on the zoo's core values, as shown by the dedication our employees have for the creatures we care for and the opportunities we have provided to the public these many decades. I am excited for the years ahead and creatures that are to come."

In celebration of embarking on its eighth decade of existence, the zoo, temporarily closed since December, is now open with a new layout.

"There has recently been a huge internal transformation. Prior to renovations, the many creatures that were housed here were sorted into buildings based on the classification categories established by the Department for the Regulation and Control of Magical Creatures," said Scamander. "Now we have an array of enclosures that groups our creatures in a more suitable way. There is even a playground, where younger visitors can interact with Crups, Kneazles, Nifflers, and more. It is a change that I am sure visitors will love."

Scamander Zoo, located inside a run-down opera house across from the London Zoo, is currently open to the public during regular zoo hours. Admission rates have been discounted for a limited time and visitors will receive an exclusive goodie-bag in honour of the zoo's anniversary.
