Fiyero had been wandering the castle for a couple of hours, trying to find a place to do the second half of his Charms project. He was starting to give up; all the good places he thought of were taken! Maybe he shouldn't have spent so much time on that shooting star mural in the Gryffindor common room...
He wandered aimlessly down to the kitchens. He supposed there was no harm in grabbing a quick snack. Maybe some brain food would help him come up with something... "Hi, guys!" he greeted the house elves, poking his head into the kitchen, but they seemed too busy to notice him. Poor elves... slaving in the kitchens all day couldn't be much fun!
An idea suddenly occurred to Fiyero. He'd do the next part of his project right here in the kitchen! Maybe having something colorful to look at would cheer the house elves up... He pointed his wand at the far wall, taking extra care not to hit any house elves that might wander into his line of fire. Now what was that spell Professor Primeaux taught him to make polka dots again? Oh yeah..."Colorvaria punctum polka." He really hoped that worked; he'd never done that spell before!
He reluctantly looked up to see the wall to see it had turned yellow with turquoise polka dots, just like he'd planned. Whoa, he couldn't believe he got it right on the first try! He half-expected to accidentally set the place on fire or color one of the house elves or something like that. He scrutinized his work. The polka dots were nice, but he thought it needed something else. "Figura circle," he said, drawing a large circle with his wand, and a purple circle appeared on the wall.
Soon, Fiyero had covered the kitchen wall with circles in shades of purple, orange, green, and pink. Now he just had to fill them in; he pointed his wand at the nearest empty circle. "Colorvaria!" Filling in all those circles went fairly quickly, but when Fiyero stepped back to admire his handiwork, he wasn't exactly happy with it. It seemed lackluster compared to the grand display in the Gryffindor common room.
He knew what was missing; he'd forgotten to animate the circles. Duh! Fiyero raised his wand but had to quickly lower it as a house elf moved between his wand and the wall. Once the house elf was out of the way, he tried again. "Animatae!" Before long, the circles were bouncing up and down and all around. Now that was a fun drawing! He hoped the hose elves liked it...
