As the students began practicing the movement and incantation, Sabel made his way around and through the rows of benches. He kept a weather eye on the bowl and water near the door, just in case someone thought it would be fun to try and pull a fast one on him. By luck of the draw it would be one of the curious firsties too.

Thankfully, everyone seemed preoccupied with the spell, especially the tongue tying incantation.

Except of course, those who had been sleeping during his lesson. Making his way over to the dozing student, Sabel gave the groggy kid's foot a nudge with the toe of his boot. "Gimenez, up to your feet and a lap around the room, full pace if you will." As in, it was not an option. "Perhaps it'll give you the jolt of energy needed to stay awake in my class."

His eyes scanned some of the other yawning students. "Anyone else ready for a snooze may join in." Seriously, beds were for sleeping, class wasn't.

And while class was for the practical, Sabel did recall having specifically asked the students not to cast. His wand was up in a jiffy, casting a quick finite in Nicolei's direction. "Mr. Nicolei, if you could refrain from casting until I ask you to, that would be appreciated. A homing spell without a target can be a nasty thing."

Just a bit of an fyi.

Speaking of fyi's, it seemed he had left a few out. Rider was kind enough to point out points that were rather important. Sabel paused at the front of the class again, clasping his hands behind his back. "The homing spell is itself, an offensive spell. It appears as a green or orange light that follows the target the caster intends. So, make sure your intention is clear or, if not, say it at the end of your spell."

Make sense? Clear as mud and all that jazz? "The Homing spell is therefore, it's own spell and should be spoken after the spell of your choice, such that it is say ... stupefy Persequoris Rider. You would do the wand movement of the spells in order, at your intended target. The spell will do the rest, cast properly. Any part of the combination can be done non-verbally."

In regards to how to stop the spell.... "The spell can be stopped by shield charms, finites and physical barriers. Hypothetically you could try to outrace it, as the spells can only travel at a constant speed, but they follow with a vengeance, so you might be running for a very, very long time. Disappearing would definitely confuse the spell, and it is likely that it would find a physical barrier to hit, providing you didn't return to the vicinity too quickly. As for multiplied targets, if the multiplication occurred after the spell was cast then the spell would go after the original target. If the multiplication happened before, you would have to choose which of the duplicates to cast at. The spell can distinguish no better than you can at that point."

Sabel nodded. "Good questions."

Ah, good kids looking for an example. Sabel nodded at them both. "Correct, Truebridge. Your offensive spell and then Persequories. Or, if you don't have time, Persequoris will do a bit of damage itself."

Looking up, Sabel considered all the snitches hovering above. There was one particularly fiesty one that was zipping about through the others. Letting out a breath, Sabel lifted his wand and cast, "Impedimenta Persequoris!" First the slash and circle of the impedimenta jinx and then the line and flick of the homing spell. Orange light zapped from his wand, darted about after the snitch as it bounded this way and that, and then connected.

The snitch froze in mid flight, turning slowly in the air for but a few seconds before the spell dissipated and it resumed it's buzzing about.

And it was at about that time that Sabel noticed the sneaking Dot. His eyes trailed over to her, one eyebrow arching. The blue stuff, huh? Well, it was probably time.

His gaze went back to the class. "Remember that your best defenses are shield spells and using your environment. Pulling up stones, boards, trees and throwing them in the path of the spell. Darting behind, under or around. But remember to keep moving and on your toes, the homing spell will follow until it is snuffed out."

Now, onto the main rut. A breath left him. "The class will now be divided into two sections. First, second and third years, you will be going through the door to the other side of the classroom. The snitches will follow. Your task is to take out as many of them as you can, using a combination of the homing spells, your environment and other spells you have learned. Be forewarned, the snitches will be attacking you." Oppungo could be so useful sometimes.

"Fifth, sixth and seventh years, you are welcome to join the Snitch Hunt, or you may stay here. We will be discussing the Killing Curse, and doing a practical on that." His gaze tracked a few of the younger students. "By Hogwarts decree, I am only allowed to present this topic and the content involved, to the older students."

Which left the middle group. "Fourth years, you are on the brink. You may decide where you would like to spend the rest of your time. For all of you older students, if you are not comfortable with the topic of the killing curse, please do go to the next room."

His hand rested on the bowl by the door. "This is a pensive, and you will have the opportunity to witness first hand what the killing curse looks like." His expression was once again grim. "Please divide up now. Those who are remaining, please take a seat on the benches and give me ONE thing you know about the killing curse."

And with that, the door in the wall opened and the snitches all zoomed through to the next room.
