Born to Muggle parents Vera and Benjamin Ackerly, Layla was initially brought up in the borough of Brixton, London. However, upon her mums relocation of jobs into central London and a much bigger pay check than they previously got, the Ackerly’s were able to move to the slightly nicer borough of Clapham. At this point Layla was only two and she remembers very little of life before moving. Layla was 7 when he brother, having shown his magical ability late, was shipped off to Hogwarts. His stint at school was short lived as he did not enjoy being a wizard and instead moved to Florida with his then girlfriend Katrina Broadmoor. Layla remained in London where she grew up a city girl, loving the bright lights and hive of the Capital City of England. She attended a muggle school and socialised with her friends a lot.

That was until the winter of 2083 when she showed the signs of magical ability in the same way that her brother did. Although she hid it from everyone for a few months, the secret was out in 2084 when she received a visit from a representative of the Ministry to invite her to the school starting September 2084. Apprehensive of both, having to catch up with her peers after missing out on 4 years of education and of leaving her current life in Clapham, Layla was not entirely keen to go to the school.

However, she realised there was no way out and the studying began over the summer of 2084 as she read through her brothers old textbooks and tried desperately to learn everything she needed to be on par with her yearmates.

Layla has always been mature for her age, perhaps due to her upbringing in a busy city. She has always learned to look after herself and in some ways can appear quite stand-offish to the onlooker. She is wise in ways that many people aren’t, world-wisely and experienced and is also intelligent however it is not a factor that many people realise as she didn’t care much for her muggle school. Layla can also be sensitive although she tries her very best not to show her feelings to anyone, choosing to keep them contained within herself.

Much like the rest of her family, Layla is very sporty and enjoys a plethora of activities in her spare time. She enjoys listening to music although never learned to play an instrument. Her favourite subjects at school were English, Biology and PE. She enjoys reading although doesn’t tell many of her love of books.
