Toby is, for the most part, an extremely happy and positive individual, and forever on the lookout for potential new friends. He is very loyal but incredibly naïve, which can make him quite vulnerable to manipulation, and has. He fails to notice this, as he spends most of his time looking at the positive, bright side of life, and often finding it. However, due to reasons beyond his control, he does not always find it easy to remain positive.

Though mischievous in his own way, Toby is never mean or nasty to anyone out of spite. He is also fiercely loyal, particularly to friends and family, though he will stick up for anyone no matter how well he knows them. He sees the good in everyone, and refuses to believe in evil, to the point where he has been known to outright deny the existence of Dark wizards.

Toby strives to be honest, but he knows that sometimes you need to be a little dishonest, mainly when protecting someone (he has been known to fully take the blame for something he didn't do, for example). He has a tendency to be secretive about his life and any he problems he has, being a very private person, and will not hesitate to lie when asked a direct question about his feelings if he is anything less than happy at the time. However, he has a strong moral compass, and will never do what he thinks is truly wrong (and believes nobody else would either). Thanks to a misguided early start in life, Toby is still lacking when it comes to knowing what is right and wrong in some matters (usually to do with acting on impulse, for example, bringing home a new puppy without permission).

Toby has a phobia of being sad or angry or any emotion he considers to be negative, will very aggressively attempt to eschew these feelings. This caused problems for Tobias as he's grown up; though he started to let his guard down and accept those emotions, it is still something he struggles with, particularly when dealing with difficult issues. Tobias takes pains to make sure that nobody sees him when he's at all sad or angry, preferring to hide himself away in various crawlspaces all over Hogwarts, the space under his bed being a particular favourite. He is also extremely hyperactive and at his happiest when he’s doing something that expends his energy, otherwise he tends to space out and get distracted, fidgety and unable to pay attention to anything, thanks to his ADHD. He is never capable of sitting completely still.

Tobias was born in Brighton, England, to squib parents Isaac and Amanda Tempus. He was raised totally muggle, with no knowledge of the wizarding world, due to his squib parentage. As Toby was growing up, his parents were less than pleasant towards him, though mostly ignored him completely and seldom, if ever, showed him any sign of love or affection. In spite of this, perhaps due to the occasional contact with his (oblivious) paternal grandparents, Toby grew to be a very loving child, and often sought out affection from his parents, despite no indication he would get it. He tried his best to always be happy, cheerful, and positive, fearing that anything else would only make matters worse. In contrast, Tobias' grandmother and grandfather treated him with all the affection he deserved, encouraged his positivity, and attempted to guide him through life when they could with a firm but gentle hand, though their access to him was limited for some time.

When Tobias reached primary school age, he was kept at home to be home-schooled. It wasn't until Tobias was eight and his hyperactivity reached a level that it was now detrimental, as well as outright impossible, to keep him at home, that it was decided it would be best for Tobias to attend school. His paternal grandparents, being moderately wealthy, paid for him to attend a private school which could provide excellent one-on-one support to help Tobias cope with his ADHD, which had by this point been officially diagnosed. After starting at this school and interacting with other children for the first time ever, Tobias started to make friends and became significantly more outgoing as well as finding an appropriate outlet for his excess energy in sports. He was set to continue attending this school until he turned 18, though these plans changed when he turned 11.

It was believed that Tobias was not magical and would not attend Hogwarts, as he showed few (if any) obvious signs of magic, and was born to squib parents. Any signs of magic that were present were somehow attributed to his hyperactiveness at school, or dismissed entirely, and put down to willful disobedience while at home. Getting his Hogwarts letter was a huge surprise, though Tobias found it difficult to come to terms with the fact that he would be spending a very long time a significant distance away at a brand new school, and away from his parents whom he loved despite their coldness towards him.

It was decided that Tobias should attend Hogwarts; he made it clear that it was something he wanted to try, and his grandparents thought that maybe a completely different world and curriculum would grab his attention better than anything in the muggle world had managed to do. Tobias was by this point less focused than ever at school, though not for want of trying. His grandparents suggested he might have more of a chance to succeed at Hogwarts, what with learning all new interesting subjects from scratch like all the other kids, whereas he was already quite far behind the other kids in the muggle curriculum.

At Hogwarts, Toby thrived. Though he still had much the same trouble focusing and completing his homework and schoolwork as before, he found the subjects much more intriguing. His grades were much better, showing almost limitless potential, especially after his OWLs (though he stays as quiet as possible about his academic abilities), and he developed an interest in Quidditch after discovering a natural talent. His life changed drastically through his time at Hogwarts, but nothing moreso than his home situation.

A few days after returning home from his first year of Hogwarts, Toby was sent to live with his paternal grandparents. Though Toby didn't understand why (as he was still choosing to ignore the very harsh truth that his birth parents did not love him), he was very happy with the new living arrangements. His birth parents did not contact him again. Toby's grandfather died shortly before the end of his second year, which he found initially very difficult to deal with. In Toby's fifth year, he was adopted by Pierson Fuller and Javy Thompson when they married; they had originally been his neighbours as well as his professors, and he had become very close to them. During his sixth year, Tobias' younger brother, Curtis Fuller-Thompson, was born. Toby is still very close to his grandmother, and they still live on the same street.
