Well, it looked like just about everyone was finishing up with their mandrakes now. Whew, what a relief that was. No one had fainted, no one had dropped a mandrake, no one had broken anything at all, and most strangely, no one had caused any drama or provoked anyone else into a fight.

This was almost a perfect lesson. Huh. Bunz watched carefully as the last mandrake slid into its new potted home and then carefully cast 'muffliato' on the pots just as a form of insurance. She removed her fuzzy earmuffs and let them hang on her wrist for a moment.

"Good job, class; I'm quite pleased with your performance today. You can take off your gloves and step back for a moment before I dismiss you. I want to show you one last thing though, before you go." She whipped the sheet off the last cart and then wheeled it over closer to the class so they could see what she was trying to show them.

On the cart were two mandrakes tucked under the sheet like they were sleeping. One looked like a perfectly healthy, brown, fully grown mandrake similar to what they had potted today, only bigger. The other was pale, ashy green-grey, and shriveled up, like a mandrake which had been left in the ground to rot--- which was exactly what had happened to them. "Mandrakes require a lot of care and attention to their growth and development; that is one reason why they're so expensive to rear. Over the course of the term, you will be raising the mandrake you potted today, or mandrakeS if you potted more than one, and taking care of their needs as they develop. We will harvest them in our next lesson, so that we do not waste these precious plants or forget about them and leave them to die." She patted the poor, dead, old mandrake gently.

"So go ahead and label your pot with your name; I have some markers around if you don't know how to do so by magic." She tossed out some black Muggle Sharpies. "When you're finished, you can pack up and go, or hang around if you have questions. Homework will be posted by tomorrow evening."
