Boom. That was how it was done. Make no mistake, he did hear the first of what would be a few approaching footsteps but the man had opted to keep his gaze fixed on the ditch below. He'd been down there earlier in the week to be sure everything was in check and he could already see the many ways it could go both right and wrong. The Quiggles, however, drew his attention immediately. "Miss Brown, I'll thank you to not call me that." This was her third warning, light and all, there would be no fourth. It was unprofessional and as harmless as it was by nature he couldn't say he appreciated having students walking around calling him that aloud--even if they were alone.
That being taken care of, he allowed himself to finally take in the view of the barrel of apples and her smug look. All of them GREEN from what he could see. A wide grin spread across his face. "Thought you'd all but forgotten." This of course was an extra 5 points on the 5 anyone got for giving him apples. Starting to think there were some Ravenclaw motives behind this...even if she wouldn't have known. Huh. Whatever the case, the look on his face was undeniable. He was PLEASED. "You did good, kid." As he waited for the others, he greeted Maddox with, "Hello Professor interesting setting choice you got here. I thought I was dreaming or my mind was playing tricks on me this early in the morning.." he laughed and took a sip of his coffee. He now had a fine taste for coffee all of a sudden. Probably because of those NEWTS. ....?
Maddox stared at the next to arrive, the Hufflepuff 7th year. Thought he was dreaming? Say what now? The Charms Professor blinked at him, easing away from the railing just slightly to get a better look at him. "Tell me you didn't sleep walk all the way over here, Mister Lecium." That sounded dangerous. Wondering the grounds half conscious was never a good idea.
Pause.
He wasn't seeing what he was seeing, was he? No, couldn't be. Not when he had a rule against such things. Maddox vanished the boy's cup of what smelled like coffee immediately. "This shouldn't happen again." Everyone got a first chance. He had just blown his. Quote:

“Hello Professor Quigley,” she smiled over to him.
What was he staring at? She wondered as she tipped her head and tired to look over the edge of the railing to the ditch below. What was he doing? The first to be as curious about the ditch as he was. There was hope for this lot yet. Maddox offered the Gryffindor Prefect a smile. "Good morning, Miss Greyvson. Do try not to fall over too soon."
Too soon being the operative term. They'd be heading down there soon enough. Quote:

Didja ever think of that? Stuffing her scarves and hats into her bag, she went to stand next to Sophie Brown who was looking wonderfully smug which probably meant she was RADIATING coolness because Sophie Brown had all sorts of reasons to be smug but if she looked smug too then it was probably EXTRA awesome. It only made sense. "Hiya Sophie." See that? Her breath was already normal-er and everything and she'd only been standing next to the prefect for a couple of seconds. Magic. Blink. "What'd you do, run a marathon on the way down here? Try to outrun a Nundu?" Maddox STARED at the young Hufflepuff hardly able to ignore the way she was panting and red in the face. "If it's any consolation, Miss Kittredge....you're quite early..."
And a little more staring. Who in their right mind darted across the grounds in the early morning when they didn't need to? Merlin's beard he was tired just looking at her! Quote:

And she called him a nerd. Suuuuuuuure. Thankfully there was the appearance of yet another student to distract him, otherwise he might have been staring for a while. This one got a smile, oh yes. You had to smile at the ones that brought apples, otherwise they wouldn't feel appreciated and the apples would stop coming. Couldn't risk that. Nope. "Thank you, Mister Fuller-Thompson." He nicked the apple from the railing the young man had placed it on then added it to the barrel from Miss Brown, purely for the sake of keeping them all in one place....and it made the pile look higher...
He liked the pile looking higher... Quote:

Like, seriously?
Way to make the rest of them look bad, Soph.
heh. Girl still got a wide grin from Eden as she approached..."Hi, professor--" she held out the three apples. Oh oh oh!
Another three to add to his collection. These students knew how to start the day right. Maddox grinned at the Ravenclaw, levitating the apples onto the pile in the barrel as well. "Much appreciated, Miss McGee." And he meant it; THREE apples was doing life right, always. Quote:

Adi held out a usual yellow apple for Catman to take before moving off to stand next to Kace. Another Hufflepuff that looked confused as he made his way over to the bridge from the castle. The Charms Professor was starting to wonder if this would become a trend. Were they not aware when they walked out of the Entrance Hall this morning and started over to the bridge?
Sleep walking was a dangerous thing depending on what it made you do, he would suggest the Healer if this continued. "Thank you, Mister Rehman." Least the boy was conscious enough to hand over the apple. Maybe he wasn't so far gone afterall. Quote:

Merlin help her. "Hello, Professor! Hello everyone!" Waving to her friends, Lux placed her apple on the barrel that contained more apples. This time he didn't even have to move to put the apple on the barrel with the others. This was clear cut thinking on the part of Miss Carrington and he couldn't say he didn't approve. "Thank you, Miss Carrington." His favourite time of day was the start of his lesson when at least some of his students would remember his love of apples.
Bless them. Quote:

"Good morning, Miss Burton." He noted the way she looked at the barrel, hoping very much that it would encourage her to take him an apple next time.
It couldn't hurt. Quote:

She wasn’t half as curious as it looked like some people were about what might be below them. She’d acknowledged Lux Sansa anyhow, although she didn’t say anything to the older girl. Adi only got a brief look, before she decided to stand near the lone Slytherin who had arrived before her. House loyalty. Was it just him or did Miss Andrews always look disgruntled about something? It was a serious question, Maddox had to wonder if it was him or if she was simply not a morning person. The latter was common place and he wanted to think that by now she could get over it. Yeah, it was early, he didn't pick his times, they were given to him. They would both have to deal. "Good morning, Miss Andrews." He said with a nod and a small smile. She should try one of them sometimes. They took away years from your face and made people more likely to approach you. Perhaps he'd suggest it one day.
It would do her some good. Quote:

Pursing his lips for a moment, he decided to find a place near Kace instead of asking. The Professor was surely bound to tell them eventually what he was staring at... Right? So giving a quick smile to Kace, he walked over to him. "Hey Kace! How's it going, mate?" "Doing brilliantly, Mister Holden." Surprisingly it wasn't that much of a lie this time. Granted he wasn't actually doing brilliantly but he was doing better than most other times. The barrel of apples might have had something to do with that, much like the thought of the activity they would be getting to soon enough. "Thanks for asking." Quote:

"It's biodegradable," he said in his defence before pulling out a crisp green apple from his bag and offering it to the man of the hour. "They're really good, I tested a batch of them for you."
Taking a small step to the side, Zeke waited for the lesson to get underway, but seeing Brooklyn close by he sent her a small smile. Hey Transfig Teammate. Just how many of them had plans to take their breakfast to the lesson? He DID have a rule against this, in case the cold walk over had made them forget. Lucky for the little Gryffindor he'd been through with his snack before approaching the class. Honestly. Did no one read?
Just as quickly as thoughts of literacy came to his mind, they vanished in the wake of the shiny green apple being offered to him. Maddox nicked the apple with a grin. "I'll take your word for it and hope it doesn't disappoint."
Aaand into the pile this one went too. Such a lovely pile. He might need a moment if this kept up. Quote:

Fixing her bag on her shoulder she removed a bright green apple which she knew to be of the Professor's liking. "Morning Professor," she greeted happily extending her hand out with the apple to him.
That aside Hady moved out of the way to stand near some of her year mates until the lesson began. And another green apple! Two in a row. This lesson was shaping up to be even better than he expected and it hadn't even started yet! It was nice to see most of them catching on to the fact he had a preference for the green kind. Made munching on them all the more enjoyable. "Thank you, Miss Lynch." The grin from just earlier had gone nowhere, in fact it might have been a little wider now. He had a feeling this would be a good lesson indeed. Quote:

"Morning professor," she said in attempt to sound completely normal.
Lots of people were there and AJ didn't have the energy to actually do much more speaking. Instead she walked over and stood by the boyfriend. He got a shoulder nudge as a way of saying hello. Yet another who'd thought to munch on the way over. Once again, lucky to be done before joining the class, otherwise it would have spelled trouble for the Gryffindor. Seeing her with an apple, Maddox couldn't help but anticipate the moment she would extend his to him but the longer he waited was the more he realized it wouldn't be happening....
Well then. "Good morning, Miss Valentine." Consider him disappointed. Quote:

Yes. Going to stand by him. Maddox watched the Gryffindor as he approached, wondering if he was ready to take everything he'd said and put it into practice. The boy had the raw potential, he was simply holding himself back. "Off to a good start, I see." He commented as he collected the apple from the boy, giving him a pleased nod in the process. Much better than when he'd gone and DROPPED them. This was progress if nothing else. Only thing that could ruin it now was...well him being himself during the lesson. It was hardly impressive.
Something they needed to work on. Quote:

He greeted, realizing a second later that the boy had indeed brought him an apple. He was one of the faithful ones he knew to always be present, apple in hand ready to learn. It was students like Benjamin that gave Maddox a little bit of faith in the student population. He was a good egg. "Thank you." As with the others, this one also went to the barrel. There was no mistaking the fact he would leave here happy when the lesson was over...unless one of them ruined it. Quote:

Definitely a trend.
Someone was slipping things into the cups at the Hufflepuff table. They were showing up more and more confused by the second. This was what happened when you taught children to brew potions then left the lab open for them to experiment. Loopy children that were confused. "Do keep in mind that this is a Charms lesson, Mister Nicolei. We don't go dragon spotting, we don't do creatures." Except for the joint with Transfiguration that once but they weren't real dragons and were hardly something he needed to get into. Quote:

Huh, it would seem the walk over did very little to wake this one up. Shame that but it wasn't the only bit of exercise for the morning. Something would have to give at some point. "Good morning, Miss Xanthopoulos." Quote:

That would not be good. Interesting, but not good at all Oh look, the boy that couldn't make up his mind. "No intention of doing such a thing, Mister Barrington." As much as he preferred Formy, "Falling won't be the way we get down there." Nah, there was easier and far less painful ways of going about that. Quote:

Hmm. Ooo! Another that had thought to bring more than one. He could very much get used to this sort of thing. Whatever inspired the generosity among the students, he wouldn't question it, the man would simply collect the apples with a smile. "Thank you, MIss McAllister." Quote:

He'd been watching the Second Year skipping over the way she was--quite happy to know she wasn't one of the students zombie-ing their way over but much more awake. Oh, and a miniature apple for him. There you go, she thought, holding it out to him. "Good morning." By now his eyes had lifted from the ditch below, taking in the students that were appearing one behind the other. Some, naturally, were more awake than others but he didn't suspect this would be the case for long when the lesson got underway. For now, he would let them have it--but only because there were no desks to have them running an obstacle course through. Guess you could say they got lucky. "Thank you, Miss Wilde." He said, returning the smile she'd offered a little earlier while he accepted the miniature apple. This was...new. He couldn't say many students had opted to get him one of these before.
Good on her. Quote:

Stuffing the rest of his toast in his mouth, Grayson munched as quickly as possible, swallowed, and said, "Heeeeeey, Professor." 'Sup nods for you.
No really, what had them opting to take food to class? Did they not think he would care it was rule breaking? Because he would. Only consolation was the boy had quickly finished it as he approached. It saved him, as it had done most of his other classmates that had also thought food was a good idea. Children these days. "Look alive, Mister Whitlock." The sleepiness and grumbling would get him nowhere. They were going to be all over today, he just had no idea yet.
And now seemed like as good a time as any to get the lesson underway.
Maddox straightened where he stood and gestured for the students to gather around--mostly for those that found themselves at the far back. Plenty of room on this side of the bridge, just saying. Now then, he reached to the top and pulled an apple but refrained from munching it just yet.
All the sleepy faces were getting looks. Not tremendously grave looks, as he couldn't be bothered with those but you had the idea. Seriously lucky he didn't have any desks to send them all crawling and jumping again. Maybe next time. Merlin knew there would be a next time. "Like always, we'll begin with a somewhat vague question just to get your brains thinking." Very important before he started teaching them any spells, not to mention it usually being a good way to introduce the topic. "Nothing difficult, I just want to know how you lot usually react when gifted something you find horrendous." Did they palm it off to someone else? Lie to save the person's feelings? Trash the damn thing the moment the person wasn't looking? "And what's usually your reason for finding a gift horrendous to begin with."
At least one of them would have the answer that would propel them into the lesson. That was usually the case. OOC: You guys have maybe 18 hours before I move the class again ^^
