He couldn't make it out but he moved closer and knew what it was instantly. Merlin he needed to get himself glasses. He forgot to mention that piece of information to his mother.
The big puff raised his hand and said, "Professor that is an elevator but also a lift like Zeke said. Whatever you wanna call it, it is suppose to help people get to their floor. People use it if they have many stairs to climb or if they are lazy.." he shrugged. He heard Zeke's question and it would be quite cool to have an elevator at Hogwarts. He waited to hear that answer. Stop thinking about Kirin, okay? You're in Hogwarts now.
He raised his hand as the Professor showed them a picture. "It's an elevator, Sir. It helps people to move from.. one floor to another..." Hope that the Professor understand his words since he still couldn't eliminate his Korean accent. Quote:

It’s a muggle device that takes people up and down floors.” But in the wizarding world, it’s a bit different. Lifts can take them in all sorts of direction.
But wait, this isn’t Muggle Studies. So...does that mean that they are going to learn how to enchant a box to act like a lift? Or be the lift?
Hm. Interesting stuff! He's all ears, Professor Q! Quote:

"That's a muggle elevator, professor," he told him matter of factly. Quote:

Henric nodded agreeably with the others who answered the professor's question regarding the poster. He had rode the lift too many times before, he could easily guessed what it was even if it been said already. "Yep..yep..that's a lift, alright,"he muttered to noone in particular. Adi got it right again, he gave him a thumbs up. Correctoo. They were definitely not magical doors for sure, but he wished it was. Quote:

AAAAH. Breathe in. Breathe out.
So while just lying on the floor, Noel looked at the poster and held his hand up before speaking: "THAT is a elevator, sir" Quote:

Listening silently she only raised her hand once she saw what the photo was of. "It's an elevator Professor and normally used in buildings to take people from floor to floor, though sometimes people can have one in their homes if like a family member or something is able to use stairs." Yup she knew that was true cause she had been in a very large home once that had one because their young child was in a wheelchair. Quote:

And he had been in one and oh boy did he have a story but there were young kids in the room so it was best he kept that to himself. "The muggle ones go up and down. They have an electric motor, cables and pulley's and counterweights to balance them." Quote:

Note to self: take Noel with him. He looked like a dead fish running around.
Anyways. Yes. Class. He lifted his hand (GEDDIT?!). "That's a lift, sir," he said, like they all did, because yes. And he was most definitely not going to share his experience on a lift. Nope. "... Isn't there one in the Ministry?" he was pretty sure there was one. In fact, he remembered being in years ago. No idea what for though. He'd been with Ja- NEVER MIND MOVING ON. Quote:

Penelope didn't like elevators. Stairs were much better. What did elevators have to do with the lesson? Please don't be that they would have to get in an elevator. Quote:

The problem with sharing that answer hadn't so much lied in the fact that everyone had said that particular answer, but that from Cutty's reactions with the Professor he wasn't really one to be so...simple. Was he really looking for an obvious answer? Cutty had doubts.
Raising his wand hand he gave a less cut and dry option, "It's a means of getting either below or above ones present location. A transportation option where no others are possible or efficient." Everything in life was more or less a tool to be used, wasn't it afterall? Blink.
Right, well it wasn't like they were wrong or anything. It was an elevator--or a lift as some called it and it was useful for taking you from one floor to the next so the Professor nodded slowly in turn to each of them, happy they'd even bothered to try in the first place. "Correct. The lift or elevator is a muggle contraption that takes people from one floor to the next both up and down. As Mister Rider questioned, it can be found in the Ministry where it travels in all directions."
Not that THAT was the important bit about all this but a little added information never hurt. "You're quite right Mister Toussaint, it does have all those complicated mechanics that can typically be found in muggle inventions and as Miss Lynch suggested, it comes in handy for those unable to take the stairs."
Useful, if not vastly terrifying. SPOILER!!: Shut down once/shuts down on people Quote:

And why were they tlaking about an elevator in charms class? This makes absolutely no sense to him... Hopefully it would tie back around soon at least. Quote:

Looking at the poster that Professor Quigley displayed for them, Lux knew immediately what the device was. She had been to plenty of muggle buildings before. Raising her hand she said, "that's an elevator. I've been in them loads of times and they are used in buildings to take people from one floor to another. Usually they work perfectly, but sometimes they malfunction and the people are trapped inside." Fortunately that had never happened to her, because she would probably have a panic attack even though she had never been claustrophobic like Bay. Being trapped in an elevator just sounded scary. She raised her hand straight away. "Professor it's an elevator..." She was muggle born so she had been in them loads. "Sometimes they break down and you get stuck in them." Angel sighed. "Though when I was Nine, I was messing about with an elevator, I decided to press all the buttons to see what would happen." Angel had at the time thought that it would be fun. Quote:

"You try hurrying along after banging your skull against a desk, Henny.''
.............................
Brilliantly awake? Adi had always been awake, Professor Feline! The only difference with the Adi that had entered the classroom moments ago and the one that had just completed the exercise was that the latter one had a mild headache. OhOhOH! They could take a seat on their DESKS? Cool! It wasn't often one got to do that so the sixth year had no problem flopping down on one.
His eyes followed Quigley's wand and he studied the poster. Hand up, Adi said, ''It's an elevator, Professor. Lots of people have been known to get stuck in one of those when it malfunctions. It carries persons from one floor to another in buildings.'' Unfortunately, he didn't have any interesting stories to volunteer involving the objects. Then there was the set that reminded him why he took the stairs. The man might have paled slightly though it was hardly noticeable as he continued nodding. "Also correct. One downside--as it is with any muggle technology--is the likelihood it will malfunction mid use. You never know when you'll be minding your own business, sipping you coffee when suddenly the machine has you held hostage for the rest of the afternoon. Don't ride them children. Not if you don't have to." Ahem.
Moving on.
He had imparted enough wisdom on that matter for one day. SPOILER!!: Silent ones Quote:

Oooh, a poster. She stared. And stared. And stared. It wasn't like she could not see it clearly, but she had no idea what that was. She felt like she had seen something like that before though. Leah listened to her classmates' answers instead. Ah, an elevator. Or a lift. They were the same thing, yeah? Its function sounded pretty cool.
Why DIDN'T they have one at Hogwarts? It would be easier to make one elevator than making one hundred and forty-two staircases. Quote:

She had a feeling that something even stranger would happen, when she saw the poster she felt that she was right. She had no idea what it was or did, so she simply listened attentively and watched. So it was a muggle contraption, an elevator...or lift. It went up and down.......they had just unexpectedly gone up and down.......was there a pattern going on? Why they were learning their ups and downs in charms class she hadn't the foggiest idea though. Quote:

She made herself comfortable on her desk and swung her legs a bit, listening to everyone else's answers. She didn't have any interesting lift stories, since she rarely actually went in them. So listening was gonna have to suffice for now. Quote:

It has already been said about 50 times.
So Dante stayed quiet and tried to relax in case more exercise was in his future. Quote:

And even now the unexpected continued - they were allowed to sit on their desks and the professor was showing a Muggle invention, a lift/elevator. Very interesting. Surely had something to do with what they were learning today and not just for the 'fun' of it. Perhaps whatever the charm was would help them all use the moving staircases a little less.
Jenna wasn't raising her hand to answer yet though, considering most of the others had covered the basics of it. She wasn't taking notes yet either, since all this was stuff she knew, having used elevators many times before. But she was definitely listening and paying attention, don't worry. Quote:

"Are we making one for Howarts?!" It needed one, for sure. Maddox HAD been doing the dutiful thing, nodding along as Mister Rogers spoke but found he immediately had to discontinue that when the boy began asking about making lifts for Hogwarts. "That's...not exactly it...no....but something like that...only....far less recommended for lift use."
If that made sense. Did it? The man didn't even know but he did know they wouldnt' be adding any death traps to the castle. Merlin knew this place was filled with enough of them as it was. Quote:

Muuuuuuuch better, yo.
Was the professor talking? He would listen in a minute. Just needed to breathe. And not die.
A harder task then it looked. Honestly, this kid. "Mister Hughbert you're beginning to worry me and I feel being a responsible Professor entails inquiries about your health." Was the kid dying or not???? "Don't need you to say anything....just...just gimme a thumbs up if you think you can make it through the class before calling it in."
This sort of thing was important. He needed to know if the kid needed removal before he could legally be blamed for anything. Quote:

Stella gave the teacher her best fake polite smile and in a tone she really hoped sounded genuinely confused she said, "But I thought this was a Charms class, Professor Quigley? Or am I back in Wales in my primary school?" Snarky little blunt wasn't she? "I thought this was Charms Class too but now I fear you've confused me and I don't have the foggiest where I am." He tilted his head at her, deliberately feigning his confusion. "Might be we're in Care of Magical Creatures now. Might be we're in Muggle Studies." Maddox gave a light shrug, his tone conversational if not a little disinterested as he continued on. "Might be we really are in Charms, but if it's the latter I'd think you being a Firstie Year and unaccustomed to the wiles of Hogwarts would wait a little longer before asking such pretentious questions." Just a suggestion she could stick into her pocket for later if she felt so inclined. Quote:

"It's a door, sir. It might or might not be the door to a lift, but it is definitely a door." ....

And then he realized she couldn't be wrong. "Awfully literal, Miss Wojack. It is a door but I was hoping for what fell behind the door." He gave a tentative smile, unsure what to really make of her response just yet. Quote:

"It's a lift," okay so he started just like everyone else, BUT Professor Q get a load of this!! Zander was about to be UNIQUE. Time to finally be impressed. "They play interesting music so people don't get bored while they've got to ride 'em. And despite popular belief, no matter how many times you press the lift's buttons... It'll still take the same amount of time for it to arrive." SEE no one said that. Plus this is really what one ought to know about the lift. Forget all that stuff about transport. "How very...informative...Mister Adair. I'm almost impressed you didn't strike for a cop out as you've been known to do when asked questions." He still hadn't forgotten the time the boy offered 'you draw your wand and cast a spell' as a response to one of his questions. "It looks like improvement and I'll take it....though why you pressed all the buttons I'll never understand. It's awfully childish and you shouldn't in future."
Because obviously Zander was talking about himself. It took exceptionally disappointing people to do something like that. Quote:

Was that what she remembered? A magically opening door? Another going for the simplest answer. "Yes, it is a door, Miss Burton, but as I just explained to Miss Wojack, I was looking for a little more than that. Shame too. Quote:

She knew more about elevators too, but she stopped herself from saying more because she had already contributed enough and she didn't want to get carried away talking. Other people knew stuff to so it was time to listen to them. Yes. Huh. Now that was interesting to note. "I never knew that..." He rubbed at his chin thoughtfully as he considered what the young Hufflepuff had said. "Fascinating, I'll have to give it a try sometime." My-... someone I know got stuck in one before, for a few hours, because sometimes they just randomly stop. Sometimes they barely feel like they're moving. You step in, and a few seconds later you're on a different floor, like Muggle magic." Muggle magic.....now there was something you didn't hear everyday. She'd ridden the lift up and down and up and down and up and down that time with Sebby and Marcel. It was like MAGIC except for muggles which was CRAZY. "But if you go up and down too many times the person who owns the lift will yell at you because apparently you're not supposed to do that. It's fun, though!" Gross.Ophelia thought she would start reacting like one of those caged animals at muggle zoos. Was it what??
Maddox stared at the young Ravenclaw for a moment, not sure what she was really asking before finally giving a firm shake of his head. "Can't say that I am, Miss Clarke. I've never been one bogged down with restrictions." So being trapped was hardly likely, y'know? Quote:

Yeah, that was all she had to say on the matter at the moment. Hopefully that was enough. "And this right here is a perfect reason why you should all thank your lucky stars you have magic. Magic makes everything easier and lets you avoid riding lifts. As Miss Hanover pointed out, it was charms that helped her grandfather." COUGHCOUGHCOUGH. "Thank you."
But it was time to move on or they would forever be pondering the mystery that was a lift in Charms class. "Like most of you have stated, this is a lift and for those of you wondering, both silently and aloud, it has something in common with the spell we'll be learning today." Maddox flicked his wand and an incantation became visible on the board. Quote:

He paused for those who might want to be taking notes. "It's probably what early lifts used to be powered by before muggles found their own means of getting by." They should write that down too, even if he couldn't prove it. "And the wand movement is simply brandishing the wand at the target." Easy as pie. "Before we go any further, let's talk applicability. When would you ever need to shoot something into the air." Maddox was of the firm belief that charms were not taught in a bubble. They shouldn't only learn a spell because it was on the curriculum. OOC: I'll probz be moving the class again in another 12-18 hours depending then we can get into practising before the activity ^^
